EF says Preds in market for a defenseman. After just giving away Fabbro. I’ve only been in Nashville 6 weeks, but already have serious doubts in GM Trotz.
They had a top 4 defensive defenseman. He's now playing in Columbus on their top pairing. The only way this works is if theyre trying to add a top 4 defenseman like Andersson from Calgary to lightening the load for Josi and Skjei. But I shudder to think what the price tag would be.

I'm not sure Andersson fixes that sort of planning and team structure. He does bring size and more offensive ability, but can he play the power deforward position that Bruno wants? (So far, it doesn't look like anyone can.)
I dont disagree at all. I never understood how they could waive the one defender who could play alongside Josi without missing a beat. I'm just hoping if Trotz is trying to get a defender, he's spending the assets to grab a guy who's a legit top four (not that Fabbro wasnt) who can pass the puck and defend instead of another Lauzon or Schenn.
2013 was pretty bad, too. I think I'm remembering right. Shortened lockout year when the most exciting play of the year was Shea blinding the GM...and it was practice.Barring a miraculous run like we had last year, this season is going to be a long, painful, disappointing slog. Something we really have never had to endure since the early expansion days. We are about to find out how spoiled we have been as a fanbase.
You're remembering correctly but the fact that it was such a short season is why I didn't count it. It was painful but it was only a couple of months2013 was pretty bad, too. Are you Willy Daunic?I must say that while I don't care for Brunette's special treatment towards veteran players, Cole Smith has been one I've not been disappointed in. He's developed into a great PK'er, is constantly harassing the opposition and has also chipped in offensively. I think he's been one of our most consistent players throughout this year and should not be bundled together with the rest of the underperfoming vets.
More like an entire salt mine. I usually block him out but last night it got to be too much. WIth all the options out there, this is the best we can do?Seriously though, you have to take Willy with a big block of salt. His job is to hype the team. Glossing over glaring mistakes is part of that. Hyperventilating over the most pedestrian play possible is also part of that. Giving everyone in the lineup verbal participation trophies is part of it too.
Knowing the difference between a powerplay and a three pointer is apparently less important than the hype since his bosses bring him back year after year.
I’d highly recommend listening to Aaron Simms call the Admirals game. That’s how play by play should be done. I heard the play by play guy for the Manitoba Moose the other day for the first time, he’s excellent as well. Those goes do hockey play by play right as opposed to whatever it is that Daunic does.Seriously though, you have to take Willy with a big block of salt. His job is to hype the team. Obviously he has his flaws and he's not a perfect player by any means but for a 4th liner making league minimum, he's been solid. He's played over 47 minutes of PK this year and he's only -1 there. Granted, PK is a team effort but from my POV, he's been very good there. Are you Willy Daunic?
He's a solid PK'er as you have to hustle and work out there. I'll give him that.
Chipping in offensively is a bit of an overreach. I think he kills more plays than he contributes to. He is slow to get his shot off, if he even does. He doesn't handle passes well and when he does, doesn't make good reads or passes when he has the puck.
He has been consistent. He's just not very good and for a team that struggles for offense, what he brings with hustle, effort and PK ability doesn't make up for his shortcomings elsewhere. We can't ice guys like him and McC and be successful long term. While it looked nice last year, our big point streaks were in spite of these guys, not because of these guys.
And to add to my Willy rant from earlier, every time I hear him say Cole Smith, I cringe.
I'll ask you to do one thing, watch the 4th line on Wednesday night and see who impacts the game the most. See who's driving play. See who's killing plays. See who's making smart reads with the puck or while forechecking. Let me know what you see.
