Nashville Predators Talk - 2024/2025 Season II

You don’t go out and replace a guy like Josi who’s been a top 5 defenseman in the league for the last 7 or so years. You just don’t.

You know why he’s played the way he has, because our forwards didn’t score enough so he did everything in his power to generate offense. Did it backfire on occasion, sure. At the same time, it sure generated a lot of chances and scores.

For the longest time, our D scored a ton of points. This has slowly gone away and with that, our team has gotten worse because that scoring covered up our shortcomings up front.

Hope we land a 1C this year. Hope Molendyk can turn into the next Josi. Hope Annunen can become the next big thing. Hope some of younger talent can develop and provide decent depth scoring and play. Maybe we suck again next year and have a shot at some more top end talent and if so, we’re one piece closer to getting better.
I don't hope that for Annunen tbh. I hope he turns into a great backup for us. If he becomes the next great thing, we lose him in expansion since we have to protect Saros. We need to draft someone over the next draft or two that will be exempt from expansion drafts over the next couple years. If we want to be competitive over the next couple seasons, we need saros to become adequate again

This is going to be a really big challenge. Annunen has been decent, but I'm not sure he moves well enough to really ever be more than he is right now? :dunno: And like you say, if he ever does become better, we'll just lose him in the Expansion Drafts.

I know the ship has sailed and Trotz isn't going to do it, but I'd still advocate for trying to trade Saros before July 1. His Cap hit will look miniscule to teams in the new Cap world. But let some other team resurrect him into a solid starter again, I don't want us to spend the 8 years trying. We can easily patch the position with temporary guys at the level he has been playing the last 2 seasons. Once you get past July 1st, there is no easy escape hatch if things continue to go downhill with him.

It would also be great to find a way to keep Matthew Murray around in Milwaukee. He has really helped carry the team to some wins in games they've been outshot and outplayed while weathering the storm of injuries and callups. He has really separated himself from Chrona as the true starter down there, and a league All-Star. He's only making $175k, but I'd definitely bump that up almost to a full NHL minimum just to keep him on hand as a perfect #3 guy.

Haider has been decent in Atlanta, we might not sign Jatkola or Milota, who knows. There's no clear NHL goaltending prospect in the system right now, and that is definitely something that needs to be addressed.

Jatkola has been pretty underwhelming overseas. I really don't see any reason to sign him.

Milota should get signed at some point as we still will need AHL goalies but he would still be in the Q next season due to age.

Extend Chrona for Milwaukee for now and grab a vet like Murray to help guide or take over things if needed.

I dont see a NHL starter in our current crop though. Doesn't matter unless we trade Saros though. There really isn't any UFA goalies out there worthwhile this offseason so maybe someone will be willing to take a shot with him and give us their current starter in return as part of the deal. I think we are stuck with what we got though

I'd much rather see Josi paired with a capable stay at home defender who allows him to play to his strengths in a system that compliments him. What would have been really cool is if we had one homegrown, who had a history of doing just that, and we actually used him.
Columbus has a slightly used Dante Fabbro who would look great next to Josi!

So I guess both his sisters played in Austin Peay, many years ago now, and at least one settled in Nashville after. Parents still live in BC and came to see him in Seattle. Maybe they maintained a 2nd residence in Nashville for visiting their kids?

Anyway. good for them if they're all close and cozy. I would never live or work somewhere just to be closer to parents or siblings, but... I'm not Italian. :naughty:

I don't know if this organization as a whole has ever been as bad as it is now. Bad GM, bad head coach, many bad players on bad contracts. I was looking forward to a top-3 pick in the draft, but now I am completely convinced they are just going to screw it up. :baghead:

No it hasn't. At least in prior years it was due to expansion or the entire team was injured and you had a ton of kids playing. These guys stunk before any injuries happened.

Truly incredible that Bruno is going to take a team with a roster that had the Norris runner up, three 40 goal scorers, and the fifth place Vezina finish from the season before to a worse finish than our teams in the expansion years. I realize this roster isn't perfect by any means but it should be good enough to not be one of worst teams in history. Even crazier that Trotz was the guy coaching those expansion rosters and seems to be fine with Bruno as a coach.

22 goals scored in the last 13 games, 1.7 per game. Looks like the bad luck/bounces/whatever is only getting worse. Ridiculous numbers that even a very good AHL team could probably match.

We can only hope the likes of Stamkos, Marchy and O'Reilly want out before next season. Hoping the same is true for Josi.

You have to move Saros before that contract kicks in. You don't have another choice on that one.

If Brunette is truly coming back, then i see no changes that will right the ship for next season.

I'm hoping Trotz is using Brunette coming back to get some players to waive their NMC so they can be moved.
