With the disclaimer that I don’t know if it would work for his family, etc…

If I’m Josi and I decide I want to come back despite all the risk, I’m asking out of Nashville. Guy has accomplished just about all he can in his career except a Cup. If I’m taking that kind of risk to keep playing, I want a chance to win it all.

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to give up on Josi. Let the doctors figure that one out. He has come back from lots of concussions so far, it's impossible for us to really guess where the cutoff point is going to be.

But he's still a heckuva player, and as long as he's deemed healthy and wants to play, I'd really like to keep watching him play hockey for as many more years as possible. 🙏
All I have to say, if he did get a concussion from that latest hit he's been out on, it doesn't look good. Obviously, that's a dirty hit straight to the numbers but the collision with the board doesn't seem all that hard. But I think the more concussions you get, the easier you'll get them in the future as well.

I think that's indeed where his own/family considerations come in. Doctors might say... sure, you are symptom-free and can resume a normal life and playing hockey. Right now. But... what is the risk that the next (possibly bigger/more violent) hit happens and puts that whole quality of life issue in jeopardy again?

I wouldn't presume to either advise or second-guess Josi on whatever decision he makes, that's for sure. Only he can decide what's most important for himself. He's probably on the cusp of HoF status, and even without a Cup he has had some fine moments in international hockey too (inasmuch as Switzerland has at least been a silver medalist). Fingers crossed for him either way. :crossfing

Seemingly on paper, josi out next season would destroy us defensively...

But we were defensively inept with him and we have been actually less inept without him (even though we are still pretty bad). Offensively, we havent really been much much worse without him.

Guess what I'm saying is, he won't make or break the team next season. There are other bigger issues he needs to consider and there are other bigger roster issues that trotz needs to consider.

Yeah, I don't think Josi makes or breaks our season either. He is just fun to watch. Although just stepping back objectively I'm not convinced that players like him (or Karlsson as another example) really help make teams better or worse. They could if their skills were supporting some other even bigger name talents on the same team, but not if they are trying to run the show themselves... I don't think we win or lose more games with or without Josi. We just get to enjoy watching some of his skilled plays from a perspective of pure entertainment.

Maybe losing him would change the leadership dynamic or how Trotz approaches rebuilding the team, however. Those kinds of impacts are probably bigger than his net on-ice impact. :dunno:

I think the thing with Josi is, he never found anyone to click with on this team. All the top defensemen in the league need a steady defensive presence next to them and with our revolving door of (inexperienced) defensemen, there was no chance Josi could find chemistry with anyone. The top guys aren't SUPPOSED to be "easy" to play with because they're far above anyone else. It takes a special type of player to play with them. It's exactly the same as playing with McDavid isn't "easy" even though people keep saying that pretty much anyone could put up points with him. Where's Puljujärvi?

As for the other top guys..

Makar has Toews.
Hughes has Hronek.
Werenski has Fabbro (LOL)
Bouchard has Ekholm

etc.

Josi had.. Barron? Carrier? Blankenburg?!

If Josi really does LTIRetire:

A) Good for him, take care of yourself. This team right now aint worth playing through potential life altering injuries
B) We are totally signing Chychrun to a $12M/year deal, aren't we?

I guess cross that dream off the list now.

We're going to sign somebody on D, but the pickings will be slim, and the cost exorbitant for what we get. :help:

I hope he’s done. In fact it’s morally questionable for the Preds to even allow him to return

He is a father and husband to a beautiful family and has made more than enough money to have a great 35+ years of life .

CTE is no joke, this is his 13th major concussion , it’s time for him to hang them up

I completely agree. I would strongly question his family at this stage if he were to return. I have said this before, but sometimes you have to protect people from themselves. If I were in Josi's shoes, I wouldn't have the decision to make. It would have been decided by my wife long ago.

I knew he was in the 10 range, didn't know it was 13.

I had a concussion about 10 years ago from a fall off a bike. It was 6 months for me to feel normal again. I'm pretty sure that was my second one as I had one in college - literally rung my bell on a fall.

All that to say, the hit by Bennett was rough but wasn't egregious or thunderous in the way we've seen him get hit sometimes. The more you get, the easier they are to have moving forward.

Every time I see him take a medium to large hit I worry about him and I'm just a fan. I can only imagine how his family feels. I can't speak for him or know what's going on inside his brain but I'd seriously consider hanging them up. He's been an amazing player for us but I don't want to see him risk his life after hockey for us fans or the team, it's just not worth it.

It's ultimately up to him.

Pen and pencil, sweep the porch, etc. What a dope.
Fabbro won him a Norris in 2020

Was listening to NHL Network on Sirius this morning and they were talking about Monty bailing on BOS and landing in StL and isnt he a brilliant hockey mind for going from strength to strength..it made me even madder.

We have to fire Trotz. Have to. No head coach that is a marquee asset is gonna come here when we have a rookie dummy of a GM who still has his mindset like a coach. No top tier coaching talent is gonna sign up to have Barry f***ing Trotz trying to sit on his shoulder and micro-manage

Think he meant 2022, which was a year Josi SHOULD'VE won the Norris had the NHL not rigged it to Makar.
Oh, I'm so very sorry. Yeah, Fabbro definitely prompted his point totals that year. Not his own good play or Duchene and Forsberg both shooting 20% for the year which got him a lot more assists than usual. Please, it's clear what some people's agenda is here. Someone please tell me why Forsberg never gets leadership criticism on these boards. He's been a part of the leadership group as long as Josi.

I've been watching this team for 15 years now, with both Forsberg and Josi and they were never even remotely as bad as they are now with all these pseudo leaders and winners that Trotz brought in. Where was O'Reilly showing them the way last year against Vancouver? or Schenn??? And about the ones that were brought in this year, the less said the better.

I don't think anybody here is disagreeing with you about the latter paragraph.

As for the first one, obviously Fabbro wasn't the ONLY reason Josi got to 96 points that year and should've won the Norris. Duchene's re-surgence and Forsberg's hot year obviously contributed to that also.

But looking back at that year, it's tough to argue that Fabbro WASN'T a good partner for him and wasn't ONE of the reasons Josi played so well that year. And with the way Fabbro's playing now in Columbus with Werenski - who's also going to be a Norris-finalist this year - leads me to believe that he has that type of player profile that meshes well with elite talent and can support it properly.
