That is big issue with our pool. Wood is top 6 or bust. Is Kemmel suited for bottom 6 role? I don’t think he really is and I don’t have high confidence in either really hitting. Guys like Svechkov and L’Hereux and Edstrom (even Nilsson and Stiga) look to be good middle 6ers who can play up or down lineup. I’m encouraged by Surin but haven’t seen enough of him to have sense of his upside, but he could be best of the bunch. We need top end guy this year to round out pool.
If you don’t think Kemmel will hit somebody, I suggest you watch more Admirals game. That kid is definitely not afraid to check and do it with conviction.

I genuinely believe that Trotz has been trying to make deals, but his concept of value for his own players is significantly different than the market. We will see what happens, but I do think we see a move before the 4 nations tournament. Just a hunch.

There is a difference between making deals and going into every situation like you're going to rob a train.

Back down to eight games below .500 ..... sitting 14 points behind WC2. At some point even Trotz, Bruno, and Willy D need to realize this team isn't going 20-8-3 down the stretch to sneak into the postseason.
Unfortunately, 20-8-3 isn't even close to sneaking in. 23-7-1 gets them to 90 points which is possibly a playoff spot but not typically. That would also be 5 more wins in the last 31 games than they got in the first 51.

Ridiculous to be holding on to this fallacy.

2nd wildcard spot currently has a point pace that would put them at 92. So say 93 gives us a 50/50 to get in

Currently have 43 points and 31 games left. That means we would need 50 points out of the remaining 62 points available. So something akin to 25-6-0 or 23-4-4. Not really realistic given how crappy this team has played and our best win streak is 5 games that we hit once.

Look towards next season and what we can do to set us up for next year not being a complete dumpster fire

Train wrecks are entertaining to watch.
Seriously. The team sucks, they are a mostly a boring sucky, there is basically nothing going on with roster moves, and all we have to look forward to is a (likely) top 6-8 pick and 2 additional 1sts in a crappy draft year. This is what being a Pirates fan must feel like every year from June on.

We could all probably hit snooze on the Preds until July and not miss anything important or interesting.

I would find this year so much more interesting if I was watching Tomasino, Tolvanen, L'H, and Svech all getting real minutes and Askarov starting some games. We might suck, but at least there's a reason to tune in.

Eh, maybe. Bad hockey is bad hockey, no matter the age of player on the ice. Watching the Ducks these last several years, even with players with way more upside than the majority of that list, there hasn't been much to get excited about or interested in. Reality is a lot of these guys may get minutes on a bad team, but won't be contributors to the team when it's actually competitive again.

We are only 5-4 in our last nine games and 7 of those games were against non-playoff teams.
We have 6 teams to jump for the 1 wild card spot left. IF we get hot, several teams will have to get cold.
Add the garbage play we are seeing, I don’t see any heater of the kind coming from this group.

It continues to be a tough pill to swallow to say we are the 3rd worst team in the league in February 2nd. The eye test matches our record. We can’t blame injuries, we can’t blame the “playing the hot goalie”, and we can’t blame a tough schedule. It doesn’t matter if it’s the confusing system, questionable roster moves, or declining player skills.
We are terrible right now.

In a season that is offering no hope, what would give me some hope heading into the offseason:

- a spark in development from some of the kids. Svechkov is well on his way to being part of that hope that we will need into next year. Maybe Evangalista gets the reset from his injury and becomes the player we thought we saw 2 years ago.
Or maybe it’s someone from Milwaukee that gets called up and excites us in the last month of the season
- do not keep adding multiple 4th liners to multi year contracts. I could see if they hit someone, antagonize opponents, or do something to offset their lack of scoring. But all they do is create a bottle neck for other players to step in.
- since we are this bad and this close to the bottom, give us the chance to draft a potential #1 center that we have never had. I know it’s not a Mcdavid or Mackinen draft, but we are so close to a Misa or Hagens who have 1C potential. As I say this it’s probable we win just enough to fall out of top 3 or lose the lottery ball and fall 2 spots.
- if none of these 3 things can happen, then a new coach

Didn't Trotz say once upon a time that he'd evaluate where we were and start playing a bunch of our youth down the stretch when it got hopeless?

Seems like that was straight up bs. Our vets are still logging the heavy minutes while the youth gets minimal TOI. Further, there hasn't really been much significant in the way of callups.

Although the dumping of Tomasino blowing up in our face was instant karma.

It's just BS because he knows the fans want to see him do something and he isn't going to do anything because he is convinced its just an off year. Just watch, he won't trade a soul and we start next season with nearly the exact same group and then come Thanksgiving he will act shocked that things are still bad.

Evangelista's playing time over the years:

2022-2023: 16:55 per game
2023-2024: 13:57
2024-2025: 12:55

Headed straight down the Tomasino/Pärssinen Road. Truly not the way to develop a potential top-six talent to reduce their ice-time year over year.
His game will pick up when we waive him. :sarcasm:

This is exactly where I am too. If we were meant to be bad, cool I can live with that if there is a plan.

But this hasn't gone according to plan. And if anything it's been the reverse of the original plan.

And it also isn't just the play on ice. It's the lack of system from Brunnette. It's the poor in arena experience now. Where's Gnash? Where's a 4th line I can cheer for like we used to have?

Everything about the org feels off right now.

He has 9 more games left before he's eligible for waivers.

So I guess if he was REALLY following the tradition, he'd go back to Milwaukee soon. Waivers would still be a ways off. Just sayin'. :sarcasm:

(That said, I hope the Preds really do load up Milwaukee during the silly tournament layoff... no point in just giving Luke, Svechkov, ZLH, Wilsby time off... send them down to play 2 more weeks of hockey).
