Washington's a good team to learn from. They were on the downswing a couple years back and were headed into a painful and lenghty rebuild. Since then:

- They hired an up-and-coming HC in Carbury.

- Traded for Chychrun, a top-10 defenseman this year, for peanuts.

- Traded for Dubois, who was a lot better than his reputation indicated.

- Drafted McMichael, properly DEVELOPED him and played him in a top-six role.

- Already a few years back traded for Dylan Strome who looks like a legit 1C.

- Traded for a Vezina-worthy goalie Logan Thompson for pretty much nothing.

I mean the point is, it's not always all about building through the draft but you have to be willing to take some chances at the trade market and it takes a very good GM to do what they've been able to do in Washington. In addition to that, they've got one of the hottest prospects coming up in Leonard AND they have Cole Hutson in their pipeline as well.

What Washington has done also takes some creativity and risks. PLD was a huge risk but they were willing to take on his deal and try to make it work. Thompson was still a bit of an unknown if he could manage a net full time.

We've shown we can develop forwards and keep them in the org, so let's ignore Protas and McM. But the thing I can't ignore is Washington's NHL scouts identifying pieces that could fit in a system and getting them even if they were question marks. They also were willing to take on bad contracts. Something we historically haven't done.

Sean Monahan would be a perfect example. His contract was traded for a first round pick. He was great in Montreal before being flipped for another first round pick to WPG. Now he's a point per game player on Columbus. Our management would never do that deal. They don't have the creativity.

I'm listening to the radio right now taking my pup to the vet and all they are talking about is the super bowl from 25 years ago.

They talked about the Preds for less than 10 minutes in the first segment.

Until someone holds the team accountable, we are going to suck

Whats there to talk about?
We outshot them
We outhit them
We outfaceoff'd them
That's all that matters. The moral victory. Not points or actual victory

I'm not saying he's our biggest problem but McCarron this year:

41 games
2 goals
-17

I just get completely irritated watching this guy get dominated night after night. The NHL's became so much faster that you simply cannot even get by with players like these. And to think we actually moved Pärssinen OVER this guy? Give me a f***ing break..

At least earlier in the season when our PK was doing well there was some justification for guys like him and Smith staying in the lineup to fill that role but our PK% is 26th in the league since December so they aren't even doing that well anymore.

Smith is atleast gives NHL average speed. McCarron doesnt. Management still going with the idea that we gotta get lots of hits to be "hard to play against".

Wouldn't be upset to see him on waivers soon.

Honestly the PK's early effectiveness was a mirage anyway. The underlying numbers were bad and they were riding a PK Sv% heater.

Maybe it didn’t have anything to do with those two and it was Carrier and Lauzon that was the secret sauce.

Thanks for coming to the dark side with me.

I think McCarron has trade value. Has good contract and can play center. Teams desire that. He may well be better in different system. I think we can get maybe a 4th for him.
I would take anything we could get for him, Jankowski, and Smith. All of them can go. I could see us getting a late pick for McCarron, maybe even a middle one for Smith. Not that we need more picks, but at least it's something. Just kick that crutch out from under Bruno. 🙏
