Tonight is an important game in the race to the bottom. Your 30th overall Nashville predators face off against the 27th overall Philadelphia Flyers.

Key Stats:
Nashville comes into tonight sitting at 62 points and 9 games remaining in their schedule and are going into tonight on a 2 game loss streak.

Philly comes into tonight sitting at 67 points with 7 games remaining and in the midst of a 2 game win streak on the back of a coaching change.

A regulation loss tonight will help to push the Flyers to a massive 71 points and make it near impossible for Nashville to surpass. It will also maintain a 6 point gap between Nashville and Seattle/Buffalo.

On paper, this is Nashville's easiest remaining opponent. All other teams Nashville faces (except Utah) still have playoff dreams. Utah may be out of the hunt for this year but they sit at 78 points and didn't have their dreams crushed a month ago so the realization might not of set in yet as they are 5-4-1 in their last 10.

Losing tonight all but guarantees that Philly will finish ahead of us in the standings. That way, we only need to worry about Buffalo and Seattle.

So your bottom dwelling teams vying for the OA #1 pick are:

Sharks - 49
Hawks - 51
Preds - 62
Kraken - 68
Sabres - 68
Bruins - 69
Flyers - 71
Pens - 71
Ducks - 72

What are the betting odds on who gets it? It won't be the Preds. I say it will be SJS, CBH (again) or Buff. It is rigged anyways so the NHL will set up some team with the OA #1 to help that team out.

I just ran exactly one simulation on tankathon and we won it, so I choose to believe that's how it's going to play out

I turn on the game last night knowing Sissons and Marchessault are out. They had a day to figure out how to get 12 forwards on the roster yet they didn't. No big deal, dress 7 D and they'll have to rotate lines. I see the starting lines and I'm like, cool Svechkov has moved up to 2C then I'm like, no, why is Vange getting pulled away from ROR and Fil. I get it, the lines were going to get jumbled anyway but this is the inherit problem, you have a line going well in ROR, FIl and Vange, keep them together. Stamkos and Bunting have been on a line together, insert Svechkov and see how he does with two veterans on his wings. It's not that hard.

Now in all fairness....

Vrana and Bellows are waiver fodder so I get elevating McCarron and Smith above those two. Are they an extra 5 mins of TOI per game better? No.

I just don't get giving them more time then Svechkov and L’Heureux. Atleast it was reasonably close.

BT isn't going to give those young players a shot! PERIOD! I don't know how Vange has lasted this long. BT is an old dudes players coach. He likes them. He trusts them. He prefers them. Young players be damned! So any young draft choice should understand they will spend years in Adsville before or if they ever will be given a shot on the big team. If I were the #1 OA and the Preds picked me I would NOT play for them. Look at our track record and ask why would an #1 OA would want to.

Yeah, there’s not a chance in hell any 1OA is going to wait on signing an ELC because of who drafts them.
