Post-Game Talk: Nashville Predators at New York Rangers 10/21/17

Despite the structure falling apart in the third they showed a lot of fighting spirit.
Finally they were rewarded for hard work, I like that!
 
My takeaway from this game is that Nashville misses James Neal, badly. They have no depth on offense whatsoever. They had the puck a lot but barely generated anything worth breaking a sweat over.

This isn't exactly a win that inspires confidence, IMO. They, once again, stopped playing in the third period with the lead.

They had some chances that we could and should have not let happen for sure. The attempts were lopsided in their favor both ES and special teams but Hank was good today and really only should have given up 1 goal. The 2nd one was kind of funky but whatever. He was alright today.

I do hate that we went from good to complete suck today for periods 2-3

We NEED to see these guys get more shots off and stop letting opposition clamp in on them. We STILL chase too much
 
The first period was good, but after that we looked like we have for the last few weeks. Luckily outside of the last 5 or so minutes the Press couldn't generate anything either.

Hank was very good (except the 2nd goal), the Hates line was very good, it was great to see Kreider, Fast and Vesey get on the board.

IF hank can at least play like that we’d win a lot of games because we can definitely score goals. Lot harder to do it from behind but this team can score.

Hank did his job today. Wasn’t out of the world amazing didn’t have to be just had to do his job and he did. That includes making a few saves to stsrt the game which has been the biggest issue for him. He’s shown he can settle in after he gets going.

Vesey Hayes Fast is looking like a lunch pail group that is starting to get going. Vesey has been nasty for two or 3 games now

That's the only bad part.

I can totally live with that first 50 minutes.

I saw that you posted this in the GDT but replied late. That is terrible really, ES or not. Awful. I complain about Hank but today he was the best player on the team. They have to clean up better still. We have seen progress in previous games so I hope they don't think *this game was okay.
 
Team came out very hungry in 1st period. Disappointed to see that effort disappear in much of the 2nd and 3rd period but they executed today. Hayes was very good. Vesey was good. Hank played well.
 
like I said, i'm not pleased with this win at all. Maybe I am an ass but seriously, the 2nd and 3rd period were exactly the same as what we've seen the last two weeks

No, I know exactly what I'm looking at. You're looking at corsica and seeing that Nashville had 1.46 xGF at 5v5 and making your conclusion based off that. Yeah, we stifled them 5v5 for parts of the game, but Hank was bombarded at points on the PK, stopping RyJo on a royal road one-timer, Fiala and Arvidsson in tight, Josi bombing away from the point.

You can use your eyes and make conclusions. It won't kill you.

I wouldn't even say we stopped playing in the latter half of the third. Nashville beat us to every loose puck and we couldn't get the puck deep. They went full throttle and we were able to stymy them.

Not thrilled we won. I gotta be honest that I think this is a bad team, and I think every win will end up hurting this team come the draft lottery. It also buys AV another game he shouldn't get.

The Hayes line was good, all the defensemen except for Holden and Smith played well. Hank was good.

We only generated 15 shots, I think we gotta change things up.

Team needed a win, they got one. Not going to waste time or energy complaining about individual players. Wasn't perfect but you build on this and bring the confidence gained against he Sharks on Monday.

Their PP xG was even less impressive.

Hank had a good game, but it definitely wasn't a "glare at your teammates" game.

He kept us in it the last 10 minutes but he could have napped the first 50 minutes.

Cautious optimism, though. Show me this more often than not and I'll buy back in. They know they needed to come out with desperation and not fall behind early again. Let's see if this desperation sticks or if they think one win allows them to slack off again.
