i believe nashville is still paying his salary

this seems like a situation where nashville worked with myers agent to find a situation where he can potentially boost his value since myers is most likely going to get bought out this offseason

The meltdown on the Flames board about this guy a few seasons ago was top tier.
He had been invited to a camp here, and wasn't invited to rookie camp after; where the Flyers snatched him up. There were multiple articles written of how the Flames let another one go, articles from Flyer fans essentially 'thanking Calgary' for a free top 4 defender.

I have no opinion on him as a player, it's just funny that now he's bouncing around the AHL, and three years ago you'd have thought on the Flames board that we just gave Philly Bobby Orr.

They are the team paying his current salary, correct

Not necessarily, IIRC.

As far as I understand, the breakdown of who pays AHL player salaries would be up to the agreement between the AHL team, and it's NHL parent. In the case of the Leafs, who own their AHL team, that's a formality / somewhat irrelevant.

In the case of Nashville, you have the Milwaukee Admirals, who as I understand are independently owned. The admirals roster is a mix of players they sign themselves, and players on loan from the Preds. There would be an agreement between the Preds and Admirals as to who pays the player salaries for those players.

The Preds & Marlies would have obviously had to come up with their own agreement for this specific case.

Im fairly certain the person asking was more curious about the cap hit. I should have been more specific as in the cap hit remains on Nashville despite him playing for the Marlies

Not to start a rumour, wonder if something happened behind the scenes? Like hit on someone’s partner or something, shit says right in NHL circles but look at harmonic
My guess is its less that and more along the lines of him and the coaching staff butted heads over something and Poile decided that was enough of that and got him out of town. I can't recall Poile ever just flat shipping a guy out because of a bad game so I find it hard to believe that his play was the reason that not only did he waive him but got him away from the organization completely.

No proof on that, but we've had some 3rd pairing guys play some pretty bad games over the years, heck some pretty bad seasons and them not get shipped out of town that fast.

Yeah, the Preds seemed down on him right from Day 1, even before he had any real chance to do anything. It almost makes me think they only agreed to take him back as a Cap Dump in the Ellis trade, and were just biding time until they could get the cheapest buyout on him this summer.

A lot of us as fans in Nashville tend to line up loyally behind the managementspeak when they talk about players, but frankly, Myers looked pretty decent to me. Some kinks to work out, but as a young 3rd pair D, I didn't think it warranted the kind of complete sidelining he got.

And for him, that's A Lot of money he lost coming here. Not playing and getting bought out is going to cost him over $2M next season alone, and who knows how much the tarnishing of his reputation will cost after that. For a guy that was at least somewhat highly regarded before this, it's gotta be quite a blow to both his ego and his pocketbook, so who could blame him if he was pretty pissed at the Nashville organization? And assuming he is, then no wonder the Preds would want to get the disgruntled guy loaned out elsewhere so he doesn't poison the well.

This is still a head scratcher. I always though Myers was an NHLer.

Nashville is paying 2mil to bolster the Marlies and then next year his future is still up in the air or he's being bought out?

Ok so loaning a guy is worth futures, no problem.

One poster said he hopes it's lease to own but our D is too good for anyone not a top 4 to make.

Is it as obvious as it seems, we used futures to replace a contract spot so we could sign our college guys?

It looks that way but it really could be more. Myers has some upside no?

At one time he was projected to be a top 4 guy and until he was moved to Nashville I'm pretty sure Philly had him playing top 4 minutes. At 6'6" he might be worth the look maybe?

He struggled last season for the Flyers, but before then he was coming along real nicely. Definitely on his way to being a solid top-4 defenseman. Real odd to see him fall off a cliff this season in NSH, as most Flyers fans expected him to turn it around.

It will be interesting to see what happens to him now.

stupid question but what do the Marlies get out of this?
do they not have prospects of their own they could give for Myers mins?
The Marlies don’t get anything (other than some regular season games since he wasn’t on the AHL roster at the TDL). The Leafs on the other hand get an in depth look at him and some feedback from the minor league coaching staff. I would guess Toronto is considering signing him after he gets bought out this summer, but have reservations.

Seeing Myers clear waivers was a wtf moment for me as a flyers fan. Greg Moore does seem like the perfect fit to get myer back on track so I'm very interested to see how he performs in Toronto. . A return to form would be great for both of them
