I'd say there has to be questions over the development process generally as so many good, young players go there but don't kick on to the next level until leaving.

The main issue as an outsider looks to be that this is such a young team, the leaders are young and this is too much for them to do alone. The oldest on-ice players are Zucker, Lafferty and Clifton. No disrespect to those guys but they aren't going to show the younger guys how to be leaders in a locker room and how to set a standard. The guys with As and the C right now all have the potential to be leaders long term but they need someone to show them how.

Move some assets and bring in say 3 experienced veteran leaders and it would help.

These guys might not be available but as examples of the types of players, Gudas, Kreider, Stamkos, Marchessault, Nelson, Palmieri, all would help this young side step forward.

The team has good assets that they can give up without affecting the core parts, so teams will listen.

Well said.

Would you like to be GM? No pressure, let us know when you can.

Well I agree with that idea, but we need to cut someone from the lineup to make room for these veterans. Zucker was great, he showed leadership qualities and played well, we need more like him. But again, we need to reduce the number of young players on the lineup, so someone has to go.

It's just that Cozens' 68 point season could have been a fluke, and he's struggling for the second straight season as coaches implement their system that also requires defense. That doesn't mean we should trade him cheap or for futures, but he absolutely should be available, as should almost everyone else on the roster, but that's my opinion.

I put a lot of faith in sights with a domain from Montenegro. Big hockey market.

Edit: 'sites' ... duh
I don't get why people are bashing the site. The site is just repeating what all the other hockey sites are reporting.

The source isn't a website. The source is D'Amico who is suppose to be a Preds insider and also works for TSN. People are too quick to bash without doing a little leg work.

Ton to offer? Like what?

This was my initial thought.

Not that the Preds don't have some okay prospects and obviously some very valuable picks to play with...but i don't see a prospect there that would be a viable "centerpiece" in a deal for a guy like Cozens, and those 1st round picks...no way Nashville is moving them given the way this season has gone.

I could have a blind spot as I really like what Cozens could become as a 2C or even as a winger.

If you aren't winning enough games, then someone should be cut anyway. Greenway is a useful player but is he actually needed? Can he be moved and upgraded? I'd say yes personally. Is Byram staying? If so, move Samuelsson, he isn't needed and has a decent value as an asset.

Same could be said for Jokiharhu/Clifton. Upgrade one of them, you don't need both.

A top 4 of Dahlin, Power, Byram, A.N.Other (RHD) is great and the 3rd pair can be two cheaper guys whose sole focus is shot blocking and defense.

I have no doubt whatsoever the Preds are interested in Cozens and have approached the Sabres about him. That's coming from a lot of different places.

But I agree the Sabres aren't in a position where prospect/pick value is really what they want. So... what does that leave? The only player the Preds have who arguably upgrades on Cozens is O'Reilly, and obviously he's not going back to Buffalo and in any event the Preds aren't trading him.

So end of the day, the Preds can be as "interested" as they want, but it doesn't sound like there is any fit.

(Although just for the record, Sissons is a lot better than this season's stats. He's a really good #3C. Lauzon and Carrier are a lot worse than most people think, by contrast. I don't think the various middle-lineup guys the Preds could offer are really what moves the needle here, though. Again, no fit. :dunno: )

And if anyone thinks that the Sabres or ROR would agree to him coming back here ..I have a Tim Hortons to sell you.

D'Amico a Preds insider? I think not. He's a MTL blogger.

...are you planning on taking over ownership from the Pegulas, or something?

I mean, not that I'd find that bad, I just didn't think anyone with that kind of money would bother spending any time here. ;)

I plan on turning over my couch cushions and seeing if I have enough to buy the team. I might be a little short though.

TBH there are no Nashville insiders. The closest we have are a couple of the fans that post here that know people that tell them things from time to time. One of them has heard the Cozens thing too so there is at least some smoke, but I guess we will see if its anything more than that in the future.

We have 3 firsts this draft alone plus a ton of very good prospects and players on roster. You’re playing like the preds have no assets? Really?
Read the thread. Buffalo doesn't want prospects and picks. You have no valuable players on your roster in the context of a Cozens trade other than Forsberg and Josi, whom I think it's fair to say aren't getting moved.
