Cozens is five years post draft, was drafted at #7, and his numbers have dropped off for two straight years. Cozens was taken right before Broberg, who the Oilers just let go. Cozens is signed for over $7 million/year and not playing anywhere near to that contract.

Cozens is likely being moved as part of a hockey deal or for another similar struggling prospect that feels a separate need for the Sabres.

They need a center, so. I’m pretty sure if they’re selling low, they’ll keep Cozens.

My thoughts as well. I think it's worth seeing if a change of scenery works for him, but stat-wise, his numbers have fallen off a cliff. That $7 mil is a lot, too. That's why it's probably best for Buffalo to hold onto him and see if he can rebound. Maybe a different system once a new coach comes in.

For how shitty we are we also have the 1st PK in the league. Buffalo is below average there and 21st in Faceoff %. Sissons helps with both. He's not a 2nd C, but he's a very solid player.
He's not of value to Buffalo. Y'know how we have a ton of Old Vets of varying degrees of washed and a ton of Young Guys of varying degrees of readiness and no quality guys in between? Same with them. They need the quality guys in between. It's like our situation with wanting a Novak upgrade only moreso.

Honestly this would be a perfect fit for everyone. Ton of Cozens lovers in Tennessee.

The 22-23 when he scored 30 goals wasn't just productive for him, he showed leadership even at 21, willing to stick up for teammates and score goals. He was one of the only players willing to play hard.

The issue isn't him, it is the coaching, the lack of experience around him and the same mistakes by the franchise over and again.

Trading him will turn out to be a bad decision. He could go to a team like Boston and be a core piece for a decade (Buffalo won't trade him to Boston obviously).

So what should we do? Change the coach again?

I'd say there has to be questions over the development process generally as so many good, young players go there but don't kick on to the next level until leaving.

The main issue as an outsider looks to be that this is such a young team, the leaders are young and this is too much for them to do alone. The oldest on-ice players are Zucker, Lafferty and Clifton. No disrespect to those guys but they aren't going to show the younger guys how to be leaders in a locker room and how to set a standard. The guys with As and the C right now all have the potential to be leaders long term but they need someone to show them how.

Move some assets and bring in say 3 experienced veteran leaders and it would help.

These guys might not be available but as examples of the types of players, Gudas, Kreider, Stamkos, Marchessault, Nelson, Palmieri, all would help this young side step forward.

The team has good assets that they can give up without affecting the core parts, so teams will listen.
