How has Colton Sissons been this year? Right shot bottom six center is something the Oilers are in the market for. What's the ask from Nashville do you think?
Colton Sissons has been a model of underrated consistency for the past several years for the Preds. He helped do all the little things that helped make the team tick, won faceoffs, killed penalties, made the subtle plays that helped his wingers succeed. That's why the team signed him to that 7-year contract, which is not typical for a bottom-6 role player. So most years when teams have asked about him, the typical response was "go away", because he was worth more to the team than a 2nd round pick or whatever other corresponding value most were pegging him at.

This year, however... well, the first 40 games anyway were probably his worst ever as a Predator. And the team has been playing him on wing a lot lately (which I find ridiculous, because McCarron is barely even an NHLer). So he SHOULD certainly be available at long last. Although he has picked up his play lately. I think that does bode well for his ability to bounce back to his usual self for any team that does acquire him. While at the same time lowering his pricetag?

I think the bigger question is whether Barry Trotz is even willing to trade him at all. He used to mention Sissons as one of the important team leaders and he's certainly usually the style of player Trotz is infatuated with. It's hard to peg what Sissons value might be therefore... Trotz might seek a premium up to that 2nd rounder level again, or if he's become more eager to move him he might actually "firesale" him down to a 5th? :dunno:

If could spin it I would say Sissons doesn't have a shot at a Cup with Nashville any time soon. Trade him to Edmonton. If Trotz loves him that much maybe giving him a chance at winning it all would make that pill easier to swallow.

Oilers and Preds have history making deals. Let's make it happen. Edmonton needs help in the bottom six and on the PK.

We'll take the pick, hold the Pezzetta?

Although again, you're up against the discrepancy of what us fans here will take, vs. the Trotzian Reality.

We'd give you McCarron for free. Trotz won't trade him because he values that lockerroom presence or whatever. :help:
Pezz was really on there so he could potentially play somewhere, but I'd do a pick for McCarron.

Dude wins draws, physical, tough and would be good for a year, or two

You also have to keep in mind that Trotz does think the Preds will have a shot at a Cup. It was supposed to be this season. But by some miracle it will be next season instead. So that spin probably won't help.

We really don't need to blow it up, we have a top 3 pick, 2more 1sts, 2 2nds and a top ten prospect pool.
I can see Nyquist, Schenn gone but we're not moving Forsberg Josi and probably not even ROR.
But presuming all those picks hit, they wouldn't probably be productive for 4-5 years & that would take Forsberg to age 34 or 35.

Wouldn't it make sense to sell high now since projected rise of the club is several years out?

I'd add NMC clauses can of course be waived.

It doesn't make sense unless we're getting another star coming back, and what would be the point for the other team?
We're a better team if we have a Forsberg to play with Hagens/Misa/Martone than without, otherwise we'll end up like Buffalo. Forsberg can still play at a high level at 34-35, he just turned 30 and with his contract he's easily tradable if the time comes.

If ROR does get traded, which we should absolutely explore, he'll be the best center available at the deadline. High level of play, great contract, term after this year. A late first won't do it. I'd be looking for a proven young NHL player with the potential to be a real top 6/top 4 type player.

The interesting piece to me is if Josi, Forsberg, Stamkos, or Saros ask for a trade. I think it would be best for us long term to trade Josi. If we do, we need a fantastic young Dman, very think pipeline there.

Josi from age 34-38 at $9M cap hit is an interesting case. Still producing. This is the best time to sell IMO but I'm pretty sure teams offer those 1st rounders instead of that young D man.

What team do you think fits best for Josi? Kings?

Josi will NEVER be traded.

I mean, if teams want to keep coming after O'Reilly, I dunno, maybe fill-yer-boots, maybe you can put together a crazy overpay that would actually catch Trotz's interest? I don't think any NHL team is dumb enough to do that, but ok, it's at least not completely 100% impossible... only 99.9%.

Whereas Josi is 100% impossible/off-limits/non-starter. His bronze statue is already sitting in a warehouse somewhere. There is no Josi trade that will ever happen. Just forget about it.

I believe there is a small chance - call it 10% - Josi asks for a trade so he can win something before he retires. The statue is secured. If he wants to go cup chasing, more power to him.

Unlikely, but not 0%

A lot of contenders are looking at ROR and so are other teams because he has 2 more years in term left. That's going to drive the price up IMO.
The price is going to be so laughably astronomical that it will go down in the archives like the Jeannot trade, if any team out there is dumb enough to pay it. I just can't in good conscience believe any other team is THAT dumb again. But I will certainly hope for it! :crossfing

:amazed: I would never have guessed that. I mean, none of us lives in Josi's spare bedroom, so who knows. But to me, he is not ever going to be a Cup-chaser, he is very happy to live in the Nashville country club, tip his hat to the other members, collect the accolades and the easy money, take the summers where the water is clear blue and warm, coast into a front office job when the contract runs out. :dunno:

I don't know why anyone would discount the possibility of Josi (or any other player) wanting to position themselves for more success. He's almost 35, if he feels the Preds can't return to contender status within the next couple years why wouldn't he at least consider asking for a trade?

Because he's cozy collecting his fat, state tax-free check, running the country club, and collecting points to try to pad his HoF credentials while perpetually playing as the 4th forward on the ice.

Why would he give up that cushy gig to go somewhere cold where people might actually care about and call out his play.

Bang on. He is Legend right where he is. And now he's going to get an extra couple of months per year to chillax on a nice beach somewhere. Some players like some things more than they like Stanley Cups,

Detroit’s 1st, 3rd, either Veleno or Copp

For

Schenn + ROR

It mirrors the basic structure of the Cici/Granlund trade.
