What would the ask be for Novak to go to Montreal?

Dvorak and Evans are their 3/4 centres and are both upcoming UFAs. Most Habs fans want Evans back but Dvorak to walk. Novak could slip into that third line centre roll. He is signed for two more years and can be a placeholder until any of Beck, Hage or Kapanen are ready.

Why are his numbers down on the year? I see he shot 18% last year and only 4% this year. I also see that his face off percentage is in the low 40’s the past three years; does he play a lot of centre or wing? He is also averaging two minutes less a game this season compared to last.

Pretty much anyone under the age of 30 is averaging less minutes than last season thanks to our wonderful coach. TBH he's played better lately after being moved to wing, which is where most of us thought he should have been in the first place. He's always stunk at faceoff's, he's just never going to be good at those.

Frankly I'm not even sure what I would want for Novak. Part of me says at least a 2nd, but then tbh I'm not sure he is really worth that, but if he isn't then we might as well keep him.

Our biggest issue as far as a sale goes is that just about anyone with any real value has a NMC, so unless they just want to go somewhere specific there isn't much you can do. 2nd part is Trotz has to be willing to move them, which is why ROR isn't a slam dunk trade. Trotz is basically treating him like he has a NMC as well.

Josi, Forsberg, Stamkos, Marchessault, O'Reilly, Saros, Skjei are simply unavailable. They all either have NMCs, an unwritten NMC (O'Reilly), or a forthcoming NMC that Trotz will feel is effectively already in place. So don't even waste your time asking about them.

There are other players who SHOULD be available like Lauzon, Sissons, Schenn, and Cole Smith who might have at least a little bit of market value for playoff teams. But who management will probably want to keep because of their "intangibles" or physicality, as important depth on next year's miracle turn-around team, since they have term. :eyeroll:

Then there are others who basically have no value but in the off chance we could get anything for them we SHOULD move them... McCarron, Jankowski, Blankenburg. Also with another year of term, so management wouldn't see the point in moving them for a 7th round pick or whatever. :eyeroll:

That leaves... Gustav Nyquist. He's the ONE guy who MIGHT be available. Although we're waiting to see if Trotz extends him instead. :eyeroll:

We don't have a fire sale. We have a dumpster fire.

Rangers considering rangers have a top 13 protected 2025 1st rounder in the jt miller deal.

To Nashville

- 2026 1st rounder unless they have a top 13 pick this year which would then go to Nashville since the 2026 would go to vancouver (technically now Pitt)
- Reilly Smith (money purposes)
- Adam Sykora

To NYR

- Ryan O’Reilly
- Tommy Novak
I don't know anything about Sykora, but stats look meh. I don't think a 1st as the showcase piece of a trade will move the needle much with fans, as the Preds already have 3 this year in an apparently weak draft. I'd think a good young player or developed prospect would be the desired return.

I like Sykora, but the bottom line is he is an undersized energy player, so his prospect value is somewhat minimal due to the low ceiling. I also like getting a NYR 1st. So the offer in a vacuum would be fair. Just... we all know that Barry Trotz won't trade O'Reilly. So it really doesn't matter. :dunno:

I think Josi is more likely to waive his NMC/demand a trade than Stamkos
Isn’t Stamkos’s contract a NMC too? Watching Nashville v Ottawa and it sure looks like the Preds have checked out in this season. Not too sure if even “fire sale” value would get other clubs to take on these guys?

If you look carefully you'll notice that no Preds fans opted for that term, except insofar as to deny its applicability.
“fire sale” is the thread title though. So which players are we to assume are being sold at such low cost?

How has Colton Sissons been this year? Right shot bottom six center is something the Oilers are in the market for. What's the ask from Nashville do you think?

I would rather not give up the top 13 1st this year, knowing our unprotected 1st is going the following year. This could bottom out next year with the way some of the vets are going. I like Reilly but this team needs to get faster. We're way too slow already. JT Miller isn't exactly a speedster. We need to start getting players who can play with pace. I would just make the offer for Novak and skip OReilly. Let them get value for him in a different trade.

I feel like itll be more along the lines of trade a few players like Nyquist, Lauzon, and RoR if he request it.

Really need a new coach with an actual system that can make adjustments before we scrap the entire team.

Funny thing is ROR would be a great fit for the leafs but I dont know if either side wants to do that again after ROR publicly said Toronto Market/Media was too much for him
