So I’ve not paid any attention to training camp or preseason, mostly just had passing glances at tweets that happened to be on my feed at any given moment.

From what I’ve gathered, we’re still awful on the power play and our goaltending is completely up in the air?

I don't know but I have the feeling that Aho and Svech don't play well together. I know it's only one game preseason. What were your impressions in this regard?

By this do you mean "back-up" goaltending? The starter is clearly Mrazek and I don't think there is any debate on that. The back-up is between Forsberg and Reimer and that probably still is up in the air.

it's just annoying when you make an observation, get trashed for it, and then said observation proves to potentially have some validity to it and everyone acts as if that was the expectation the whole time. 4 out of 5 who crawled up my ass about it will eventually rewrite it to some tempered variation. to me, that's the eye roll.
Your observation was that Necas has been "comically bad".

That's Negan-level hyperbole there, and -- fair or not -- we expect much better from you.

No one has looked very good in preseason so far. No one has stood out as a guy who is ready to lead by example, etc. But we've also only seen 1 or 2 games with anything that halfway resembles an NHL roster. The goaltending has been good. And that's about it. None if the Checkers or camp invitees has made the organization take a moment to think. Gauthier will make the team in the absence of Dzingle. And that's about it. After 4 or 5 regular season games, we should start to see much more chemistry, leadership, skill, etc.

I think there is a case to be made for both Aho and TT looking good. Both have made multiple good plays leading to scoring chances for others—wherein lies the problem.

In the last three preseason games the Canes have not looked like the Canes of last preseason or January-April. They have looked much more like the Canes from 2015 through December 2018. They look like the Corsi champs with no finishing ability.

In this game, Carolina had one more shot than Nashville, won quite a few more face-offs, but didn't finish the grade A chances and the power play was uninspiring.
Someone needs to start the season hot: Niederreiter, Svechnikov, maybe even Foegele. The aggressive forechecking style is much more disruptive when it creates a few goals.

JUST SAYING, BUT ASPECT OF VENGEANCE IS CURRENTLY WITHOUT GOAL ALLOWED. HE WASN’T TESTED MUCH THOUGH.
