Montreal would be something like Will Bitten or Brett Lernout. Not saying they'd do it, but in terms of value, that's probably in that range.

I guess he could work on the 3-LW.

Leivo? IDK we have virtually no expendable RHD, and all the forwards I thought about shoot left when I checked.

I like Reider but the Leafs aren't really a fit.

not much for RH prospects in EDM

You forgot the best one (aside from Puljujarvi who obviously isn't available) in Ethan Bear. Doubt we want to move him, but he's in the right value range for Rieder.

I think too much is being made of Rieder's previous disinterest in playing for the Oil. It all seemed based on the depth chart, and the fact he was a small skill guy automatically behind Ebs and Yak. Since then he's established himself (better than Yak), and we drafted Drai (fellow countryman and good buddy).

I can't say for sure, but I think he'd consider the Oil as an option now (particularly if we moved Yak).

if EDM had any offensive RD at the NHL level I'd be more inclined to include Bear

I guess guy who maybe projects as a 2nd pairing guy in the NHL should be available for a young middle 6 NHLer, I'm not going to act like that would be poor value for anyone but ARI like CGY fans thinking Andersson is untradeable

You can probably claim Teemu Pulkkinen's bullet of a shot off waivers at some point in November once he is cleared to play in the NHL and does his conditioning stint in Grand Rapids.

I'd probably offer Brett Lernout. I'm a huge fan of Reider, but I think Lernout will be a good 2-3rd pairing physical DFD with a bit of O to his game.

I'd love to see Reider with Plekanec & on the PK. I've always felt he fit our style like a glove.

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Radulov
Reider-Plekanec-Gallagher
Shaw-Desharnais-Andrighetto
Danault-Mitchell-Byron

I know a lot of Canadiens fans want Lehkonen at 2LW but I'd let him dominate the SHL again this year unless he completely runs away with a spot at camp.

If their are any player(s) take your pick(s). Plus add a draft pick.

Chicago has some RH dmen they could offer (TVR, Pokka) but both Arizona and Chicago would be in the same boat for all three guys, they are at risk for the expansion draft.

I dont think Chicago would do it though because if they trade one of TVR/Pokka, they would likely lose the other due to expansion

At that point it would be like trading both TVR/Pokka to acquire Rieder and I dont think they would do that.

Unless they are REALLY sold on Kempny and Forsling moving forward and they badly want to improve the forwards (replace Hossa on top line and slide him down to 3RW?)

All this with the premise that they acquire Rieder and protect him with one of the 7 forward protected spots

So far, Curtis Lazar is the most interesting name to come up. Would most Ottawa fans go for a Rieder for Lazar swap? Reminds me a little of the Brassard for Zibanejad swap in some ways. Ottawa gets the more proven player that is also still young. They give away the younger, more raw player.

Tobias Rieder is 23 years old. He has two NHL seasons under his belt.
1. 21pts
2. 37pts

Curtis Lazar is 21 years old. He has two NHL seasons under his belt.
1. 15pts
2. 20pts

Both players are trusted PKers on their respective clubs.

Rieder is rumored to be asking for less than 3m per season but at least 500kay more per year than Arizona is offering.

He shouldn't break the bank, but he'll certainly cost more than Lazar next season.

Lazar also has the versatility of possibly playing center at some point.

Rieder is definitely a little more proven, though. And should be no worse than a 40-45pt NHL winger with PK ability.

We would hope Lazar has that same upside or better, but he hasn't shown it year (though he is two years younger so it's not apples to apples).

Tough call. What do Sens fans think?

I think this is much better format for "value of" threads. Value is subjective to the trading teams surplus and needs.

Should have these threads more often. Lazar for Rieder is a solid swap.

Not a Sen fan, but as much as I like Reider, personally, I'd be hesitant to move him for Lazar - but then I still see him as a prospect with untapped potential. Not to mention, that while Reider likely isn't asking for a huge amount (or anything all that unreasonable really), Ottawa has a rep of being a lot more worried about their actual salary (dollars out) then many other clubs. We all know Lazar will almost certainly get a raise next season, but that's still 12 mths away vs the 1.5-2m that Reider is looking at (above what Lazar would earn).

Honestly it would depend on what Rieder wants term/$$ wise. If like you say hes looking for under 3 mil on a hopefully multi year deal I'd probably do it. I do think Lazar will be the better player long term. But Rieder would help us now, which is what GMPD seems to be going for..

Very interesting concept..
