Is this the part of the thread where we talk about Robin Bawa breaking the glass one pane over from the Linden Norton hit trying to put a player into orbit his first game as a Canuck?

Watched the game at my Grandma's house in Duncan and boy was she fired up.

Edit: found it

Ken Hammond, who is the only player in franchise history to appear in playoff games for the team but never a regular season game.
I whined on Twitter when Puckdoku wouldn't credit me a Canucks/Sharks square with Ken Hammond, and shortly thereafter they changed their rules so that playoff appearances counted as "playing for the team".

Your Mother's House.
Yes he was. It's actually one of the more surprising failures (to me) but in retrospect it was a player who was simply a great fit for Lemaire's system.

Like he was coming off two good seasons playing a 3C role. He's big, played on the PP and PK, right-shot C who can win faceoffs. He was 29 years of age. It's not like he was Schaller who had one season of being a decent 4th line player. The dropoff shouldn't be he was so bad he's out of the league in half a season.
He has the slowest and softest player I've ever seen.

Players that Dave Nonis signed fits the theme of this thread perfectly.

I remember being a young fan and being stoked for Yannick Tremblay. He has 3 points or something in a rare game I went to.

I had so many guys i was going to mention, but y'all have it covered for the most part!

We should put together a full roster of players VAN owned the rights of, but never played for them (excluding PTOs/preseason). Here's a start:

F - Janney, Umberger, Glenn Anderson
D - Connauton, Forsling
G - Van Biesbrouck, Marek Mazanec

As for obscure players no one has mentioned yet (I think?):

Mike Duco (guy VAN got for Shirokov)
Yann Sauve
Drew MacIntyre (lost a point on PuckDoku once for VAN/DET thanks to him not getting any games with DET before being traded to VAN, but he works for any combo of VAN/BUF/TOR)
Jason Krog
Mats Lindgren (remember the Linden/Lindgren/Langdon line? :biglaugh:)
Byron Bitz (obscurest of Sedin linemates?)
Michel Ouellet (never mind... remember the "two egg omelet" line? :yo:)

How about some prospects who never made it into a game?

Patrick McNally
Mats Froshaug
Prab Rai
Daniel Rahimi
Patrick White
Alexandre Mallet
Cole Cassels
Matthew Thiessen (saw him play in the RBC Cup for the Steinbach Pistons the year Chilliwack hosted )

I don't remember ever watching him play, although I must have several times. I had his 1992 Pro Set card from just after he went to San Jose in the expansion draft. One of those players like Brock Nelson who looked like he was born in the wrong century

Steve Bernier

He had one of the best debut games I can recall for a Canuck. It was the opener of the 2008-2009 season, I believe, where we stomped the Flames 6-0 on opening night (where we paid tribute to Luc Bourdon). He scored a goal, had lots of chances, and late in the game Phaneuf hit one of the Twins and Bernier dropped the gloves with him and acquitted himself well. The building was chanting his name.

Never reached the heights we hoped he would, but his first season in Vancouver was reasonably solid.

Always felt bad for Bernier. Dude worked so hard out there but his feet could rarely get him where he needed to be on time, and he was always a half beat too late, but he seemed like a guy who would run through a wall if they told him to.

Also felt bad for him taking that major in the finals and the Kings basically winning the cup off that PP.

Still can't figure out why they didn't call up Wade Flaherty in the midst of the whole Maxime Ouellet, Mike Noronen debacle.

Brad Ference.

Drafted 10th overall in 1997 because he was a mean, somewhat mobile defenceman with one or two projectable skills, a grossly overvalued combination at the time. Ference never played a regular season game for the team, but did appear in a few preseason games and basically went apeshit at the slightest provocation trying to impress management and stick. Went to Florida in the Bure trade and had a fairly short career.
I so, so hated this draft pick. They had a disappointing season and when you're looking forward to at least getting a high draft pick out of it, they cynically take a low-upside tough guy yet again. Even from Quinn's earlier days, as a teenager I was on the "just take a guy who scores a lot FFS" bandwagon like two decades before the Canucks ever thought about trying it. I was always so jealous of other teams on draft day when they'd get some flashy new scorer to look forward to, and we'd have "a big (project) defenseman who will really patrol the crease" or "a tough (project) center who might develop into a third-line faceoff specialist."

He was pretty effective for us in our two playoff runs as well, playing essentially on the third line. He was a hard working, likeable guy - and I agree, had to feel for him in that Final.

Oh yeah, he carved out a solid career for himself, but in terms of expectations as a guy with 100pt draft year taken 16OA in the 2003 draft, and just what could have been for a big body with decent hands in tight, he just never quite had it to take that next step in the NHL. Kind of similar but different story as Taylor Pyatt (and obviously a million other dudes) in a lot of ways.
