Name a former Leaf that people generally liked, but you hated.

Kessel, Gardiner, Barrie, Kerfoot (hopefully soon to be former), Reimer, Leivo, Johnsson and many more.

going back a bit in time, Jamie Macoun.
In the old Gardens, after a bad goal against the leafs, he fired the puck into the crowd.
Hit the guy behind me in the nose, bounced and hit me in the back.
Guy had a broken nose, they packed it, and sent him back to his seat with a free beer.
Always hated Macoun's play, forget about his stupidity.

Cujo, for never being able to win a big game, getting outplayed by Arturs freakin Irbe as an example ... and then leaving via free agency which in hindsight was great because Belfour who replaced him was miles more consistent and stable in net.
Dude in the 02 ECF we scored like 1 goal per game. Our team was battered from NYI/OTT. No goalie was going to win with that goal support.

Something my older son said,
“Dad didn’t yell at us when we were growing up.
Just the Leafs,
Especially Tie Domi.”

True story.

Well, not all of it. I did sometimes yell at my sons.

Domi. He pretty much cost us a playoff series with the shit he pulled in 2001 with that drive-by elbow on Niedermayer. Woke up a team we seemed to have the edge on through 4 games and totally robbed us of any momentum we had.

I didn't dislike Reimer at all. He's a genuinely lovely person and it made me feel bad about hating the fact that we were relying on him to do more than he was honestly capable of. But his support army and the cult he had following him was Tim Tebow-esque. It was really hard dealing with those people.

I don't think anyone actually read the title

Jason Blake, Barrie?? are you serious everyone hated these guys. Even Kessel, Antropov, Gardiner, Gauthier were pretty largely hated on, sure they had supporters but they certainly weren't "generally liked"

I mean, the second part is a legit gripe. Throwing a fit and leaving because Quinn benched him at the Olympics was certainly deserving of some blowback.

But how the hell are you gonna blame him for getting outplayed by Irbe? We literally scored 6 goals in 6 games and 3 of them went to OT. We were just completely beaten after two grueling 7 game series. CuJo was the farthest thing from the problem that series.

Tie Domi. The smirk, the useless fights, the way he would fall over after he would body check somebody even though was the short, squat guy.

incoming!!!
Interesting take.

Though they were different types of players, I think of Domi as similar in personality to Darcy Tucker because were both drama queens who hurt the team as much as they helped.

I'll explain Blake. By the end he was hated. But at the time of acquisition, he was treated/seen as the second coming.

To me he was a decent player who cashed in on one big year. This fanbase acted like we got a seasoned rocket richard candidate. To me, kind of similar to R.A. Dickey. Late bloomer in their 30s who were decent players then had one huge year.

Rick Vaive, I hated the tantrums, dumb penalties and goal sucking.
Glenn Anderson, such a dirty player, hit him and he'd carve up your face.
Chris Kotsopolous, also a very dirty player, he was constantly slashing and grabbing and not very good otherwise.

I liked Antropov...leafs went off the board for him. He surprised in his rookie year,, think he may even have gotten a hat trick Vs Florida (unsure). His game evolved alot over the years. Came in skinny and lanky got into some injury problems, put on like 40-50lbs, learned how to be a net presence - became very good in front of the net and at protecting the puck on the cycle. Great hands for a huge man. Rare player, also good leader.

I dont think he was necessarily hated though.

I hated Grant Fuhr. He was total crap. I wasn't particularly fond of Glenn Anderson either. Now, if you wanted to give me Gretzky, we could talk.

Not sure if many actually like him but I hate Kerfoot with a passion. Also really didn’t like Plekanec (probably spelt that wrong but to lazy to check the proper spelling)

I thought Sparks had no business in the NHL from the start, even when he had a decent night, his technique reeked amateur. He had a lot of support here based on the AHL, I get the chance aspect, but he was garbage in the camp to win a job and I never saw an NHL goalie. His flaws seemed evident even in the Calder run.

I note he’s in the ECHL now.

Conor Brown. He was such a boring, nothing, no event player and for some reason he wore the "hardest working guy" label, contrary to Leaf fans belief he was not exactly Hyman out there. He was a somewhat positionally safe guy that's the best I'll say about him he was not out there grinding hard on the forecheck every shift, this fanbase has amnesia sometimes.

Oh and James "he's a battler" Reimer, "battling" is not a good quality for a goalie to have.

Also Kessel and JVR completely quit on this team worse than about anyone I've seen. Yes they were our top players for years so I know people weigh their contributions ultimately in a positive light but I don't know if I've ever seen anyone give up like they did.
