I felt a slowish start was going to happen. And like I say every year, it's freaking October relax, people won't even remember these games in March. We're in the hunt, I like this team on paper, I think the style he wants is winning hockey, particularly in our division.

The over the top takes here aren't reality, chill imo.
nailed it. (as did OP)

Every year I hear the same thing. Don't worry it's early! Then when we lose I hear if we just scored one more goal! Fix the damn special teams. If I underperform I'm fired and replaced by someone better. They don't hire someone worse!

I think this thread will ultimately go the way of the "this is not a serious team" thread from last year. Let the season play out. 10 games is not long enough to judge this coaching staff.

I think in 10 games TOR will be in the mix of playoff teams.

I don't think they'll be in the President's Trophy mix.

I'm sure they will go on their usual 7-2-1 or 9-1-1 November streak. The only difference this year from prior years is that the Atlantic has become more mediocre, so getting to the top of the division won't be as difficult, especially with Florida now having to go play this stupid international games.

So when do you figure we'll be moving into 1st to stay this time around?

Ride the roller coaster, up and down, up up up up and dowwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Wheeee!

Especially after ending the Jets' hot streak last night, this team is exactly who they have always been. We've got some really good players, some question marks in our forward depth, our goaltending is more an exercise in hope than anything else (I hope Stolarz keeps this up!!), and our core have the mental fortitude of toddlers who missed their naps. We're gonna be hot, we're gonna be cold, we're probably going to make the playoffs in a divisional seeding, and then we'll try our luck at the playoffs with a new coach, goalie, and another recipe of depth players. Will it be any different this time? FIND OUT THIS MAY, YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!!!

The roller coaster is very clearly called, "Toronto Maple Leafs", you should know what you're signing up for when you get on it.

If we don't fix those special teams we will lose first round I guarantee it. Bookmark this for posterity. I 100 per cent guarantee first round exit if we don't fix special teams. Its the same core.

If you're still financially supporting this team you're part of the problem.

You're getting what you paid for. At least these regular season warriors finally won again the other night. They're now back to a .500 record.

We should all hold hands while standing in a circle singing Kumbaya.

Over 10% of the season is finished and the Leafs are struggling. To make matters worse the bottom feeders of the division are actually winning a few games. The race has become a lot closer with the Leafs no longer looking like a sure thing for the playoffs.

This is what the average fan wanted.

All the pathetic offseason moves were applauded by the majority of a largely casual fanbase. If Treliving continues to be an inept dolt next year I wonder if people will still support him. The good news is that it's never too late to break free from the age old tradition of paying thousands of dollars to watch this team lose.

Just because you're part of the problem doesn't mean you can't be part of the solution.

It's not "early". Points now count the same as points in February, March, and April.

They need to win the division. It's that simple. Waddling around in the 2v3 matchup again is just asking for disaster. They aren't good enough to go through two Atlantic Division teams in the post-season.

Just win the cup ....nothing else matters. Thats the hump to get over.

Enjoy the ride...we have some of the best the NHL has to offer on our team.

Too many are hung up over playoff series wins. Makes no difference if they lose in the 1st rd or 3rd rd....it doesnt add experience...it doesnt add toughness. Thats all hogwash.

Thats more about the fans crowing then the players.....McDavid didnt care making it to the cup finals ....he wanted to win it.

Change came as it should of and lets see how this coaching staff and roster do.

Been watching leaf hockey since the 60's......seen alot worse leaf teams than this one.

Will be another fun season.

Agreed, I think this season should be all about winning the division (as last season should have been). The Atlantic is even more wide open this season. No other team is going to run away with this division.

I'll bet the fans cared though. I'll bet they had a ton of fun on that ride, certainly more fun than Leaf fans have had in ages. You're telling people to enjoy the ride but playoff series wins make no difference - that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. A deep playoff run is more enjoyable than anything that can possibly happen during the regular season, how do you not get this?

Most fun I've had watching this team was in 93. We only won two rounds but still, it was an amazing experience. A thousand times more exciting than anything this team has done during the regular season and if we can't win, I'd prefer going deep to going out in round 1!

So you think October games matter then? Outside of the 2 points, they do not. We have seen what matters is how a team is playing when the playoffs rolls around.

Typically the hottest teams in the league from Jan/Feb onwards go the deepest.

I enjoy the regular season just as much as the playoffs. I dont get hung up on playoff series wins.
I mentioned that winning series or two in the playoffs is for the fans crowing. The players are just as disappointed losing in the first as they are losing in the cup finals because the Lord Stanley is all that matters. Me as a fan thinks the same way. Cup or bust.

Who said anything about fans not caring?

If the most fun you had was in 93 ....good for you ....I hoped you enjoyed it. Fill your boots. My old brain doesnt remember much of it and I dont get hung up on it. Just like I remember little bits and pieces of the last cup.....doesnt take one ounce of Joy from me watching the leafs now.

And if you find it more exciting winning 2 rounds than watching some of the best players in the NHL day in and day out.....fill your boots again. Whatever makes you happy. I find it exciting watching Mathews popping in 60 goals a year and the other elite players we have.

You must hate watching the regular season , its a long year....... Being pissed because this core is not fullfilling your happiness is on you.

If you enjoy the regular season just as much, that's great. For me, the playoffs are on whole other level, I suspect that is the case for most people but there's no right or wrong here.

You said this:
Thats more about the fans crowing then the players.....McDavid didnt care making it to the cup finals ....he wanted to win it.

That was why I said I bet the fans care. I suspect McDavid cares too but I know for a fact that many fans do care starting with myself, and all my friends who follow the Leafs.

Putting words in my mouth is senseless, don't do that, it's not a good look. I don't "hate" watching the regular season, I just find the playoffs to be much more exciting and my happiness doesn't depend on how the Leafs do. Cheers!
