A sideways year can be a silver lining. Blind faith in Rod’s system instead of spending money to keep some of the good people we’ve lost not working out as planned is probably a good thing for the higher ups to watch. Those players aren’t coming back though so you can’t dwell too long. I’ll forever miss the Peesh. I watched an interview with him after the signing and he wanted nothing to do with talking about the Canes and was jazzed to be a Devil. He seemed completely over whatever process he had gone through to become an FA.

Still, I don’t expect to beat the Devils every game. We tried to outrun sprinters there for a bit in the middle of the game and it cost us the two pts. Not worth a meltdown.

Goaltending is AN issue, but it's not our main one. The lack of production from our stars players looms over the season like a curse. We've shown in the past we can overcome bad goaltending. We can't overcome our Top 6 playing like it's a scrimmage.
The data, and eye test (for me) shows that goaltending, Scoring and team defense are all equally the problem. Since they started struggling around Nov 21st:

Pyotr's SV%: .891 which is 21st out of 25 goalies that have played 10 or more games.
Canes 5v5 xGA/60 is 19th best in the NHL
Canes 5v5 GA/60 is 27th best in the NHL
Canes GF/GP is 24th best in the NHL

That said, I don't think the team is as bad as they've been playing lately, nor do I think they are as good as they played early in the season.
