I know that this is somewhat flogging a dead horse, but I always see people making 1A, 1B and 1C rosters. It's very apparent that the depth is the strength. I also think that there is enough high end talent to have 9 lines and 6 d-pairings that rival most other international teams.
I have split them using OHL, QMJHL and WHL regions. Not super strict, just used as a baseline.
OHL
Hyman - McDavid - Marner
Stamkos - Scheifele - Johnston
Verhaege - Bennett - Konecny
Byfield - Cirelli - O'Reilly
Kyrou - Thomas - Horvat
Crouse - Tavares - Fantilli
Weegar - Hamilton
Power - Tanev
Pelech - Ekblad
Nurse - Doughty
Pietrangelo - Clarke
Binnington
Talbot
Blackwood
QMJHL
Lafreniere - Crosby - Marchesault
Marchand - MacKinnon - Batherson
Huberdeau - Giroux - Drouin
Mantha - Couturier - PLD
Killorn - Dannault - Bourque
Chabot - Letang
Girard - Dobson
Matheson - Savard
Lauzon - Vlasic
MAF
Montembeau
Pickard
WHL
Reinhart - Point - Hagel
Barzal - Jarvis - Stone
Stankoven - Bedard - Celebrini
Eberle - Cozens - Guenther
Debrusk - Schenn - Gallagher
Toews - Makar
Theodore - Parayko
Sanheim - Harley
Rielly - Pulock
Thompson
Kuemper
Hill
The Q is obviously the weakest of the 3 teams, but have game breakers at the top end. They are also very old.
The W is the youngest team with the strongest defense.
The O is just strong and deep.
IMO, Ontario and the West would both still be contenders. The Quebec team still wouldn't surprise me if they medaled. On paper, they would be stronger than the Czechs, Slovakia, Germany and Switzerland.
