I'd be fine keeping Copp, Motte and Braun. If Strome is gone like everyone thinks Copp takes his place and the two other guys come fairly cheap.

Hate Larry all you want, it's a pretty good view of the state of things IMO.

They got regular season tough last year, they need to get playoff tough this year. I think the next crop of players coming in (Blais/Kravtsov/Cuylle/Robertson) and internal growth will help a lot. Playing Tampa will be good for them, who better to learn from? They will need to go through the bolts and most likely islanders as well (I think we are better than the Canes) so they need to be ready for the challenge. I like the direction of the team and think they will be.

Ridiculous. Larry’s answer to the overcommitment to grit and toughness all last offseason?

More grit and toughness, but with SIZE!

Spare me. You aren’t gonna be able to out size Tampa with quality players anyway. It’s the same stupid argument that I pushed back against when they said we have to get tougher to beat the Islanders. No, you just had to wait them out and their own cracks showed up.

The Rangers can’t run out and sign a Sergachev, Maroon and Paul, and even if they did, that’s not what is best for their team. The Lightning have their own makeup that works for them. It’s not necessarily what will work for us. And even if not, the Lightning won’t be great forever. Our window is open for a long time.

He’s right -,
The only time we look small the season was against Tampa Bay.

Sammy Blais will be huge for this team next year. Hoping PK Slewfoot doesn't throw another bullshit cheapshot on him.

Laf will continue to get stronger and throw his weight around more.

Miller is slowly becoming more physical, Schneider will no doubt be more physical after playing a very very safe game most of the season.

But in the end, I don't think it's fair to say we were pushed around, the team was so tired, you could see it. We were completely drained once game 3 game around.

Was the lack of size the reason we took the first 2 games off the Bolts?

If you have ever played hockey in your life you know the difference of having ”warm” legs.
Tampa had a nine days off, it’s almost impossible to reach game-style intensity during that break.
We had a day off after two 7 game series. And it costed us in the end imo.

Yea Chris Kreider is just too small and stays to the outside. /s

Could you imagine how big of a mistake it would have been to change the lightning core after they were swept in 2019?

Can we allow this team to learn or should we do something stupid?

Brooks isn't wrong about the Rangers needing to get bigger with a checking/2 way/shutdown line. TB had the Gourde line. TB acquired Paul from Ottawa at the deadline. Paul isn't t breaking the bank with his current contract at a $1.35M cap hit. TB has Cirelli who can also play that role. Cirelli's line shut down Zibanejad's line.

Brooks discussed this topic on the NY Post podcast yesterday. He also mentioned this topic during the Rangers playoff run. The Rangers need that element in their top 9.

Maroon isn't breaking the bank playing on TB's fourth line at $900K for the last 3 seasons.

Bigger is better in the playoffs. TB has those big defensemen and the right mix at forward.

TB added Maroon as a free agent in the summer of 2019 and they traded two 1st round picks for Coleman and Goodrow at the 2020 trade deadline. Those players fit the cap and they helped change the dynamic of the team. The Rangers need those type of players in their bottom six.

TB has cap issues but they find players who fit their cap structure. They don't break the bank for their role players.

Let's hope Blais still wants to play for this team after he was accused of incest by Ranger fans online.

Brooks is saying "lets get tougher--" I don't really see how that's the answer. He wants to add toughness to a bottom 6 that largely focused on getting tougher already. TOughness also does not just mean physical toughness. Mental toughness is what the Rangers need more than anything. FAR to often in these playoffs the Rangers would score, then immediately have bad shifts in a row giving the opposition some life. They never put teams away in those spots and that, to me, made the difference. Playoff hockey is all about putting your opponent away in those key spots. You have to be mentally strong and realize that there are moments in every game that need to be taken advantage of and crush the will to compete out of the other team. Rangers just did not take advantage of those opportunities enough.

Physical toughness was added already. Now it's mental toughness.

And those nine days off helped TB tremendously in the long run.

Exactly. We took the first two with skill before our own legs gave out.

Maybe rushing out and signing big tough guys who will not be as good as Maroon since he's the best at what he does, isn't the answer.

Maybe the answer is to find something that works for us that COUNTERS Tampa's size instead of trying to make a cheap imitation of it.

Or MAYBE.... the answer is to stop trying to build a team specific to beat one other team. You know, even if we get by Tampa, there is still Colorado to face.

Just build the best damn team you can and stop worrying about outdated templates to beat another aging team.

Right, we don't need Pat Maroons, we need more Alexis Lafrenieres, and then they just need to grow. Guess what? That might mean losing in the playoffs again.

Go get some f***ing young centers.

The team needs to learn to finish series in 6 games or less.
They also need to just learn to play playoff hockey. Which isn't requiring more grit and toughness (actually thought they were pretty good in this area as they didn't get pushed around at all). The issue is they need to learn legal interference and how to completely lock things down when they get a lead.

Is there something wrong with Hulk Hogan?
Yes, many things.
