Wow. Truly amazing.
I thought this season was cooked for this team more than once…
- when their major off-season acquisition Laine got hurt in the same pre-season game as Reinbacher and for a few days looked to be out for the entire season
- then early December when the Habs were 2nd last in the whole league
- and then after that losing streak going into Four Nations.
I also had my doubts about St-Louis being the right coach beyond the first 2 seasons of the rebuild. He isn’t perfect, but he will get many coach of the year votes and may be an Adams trophy finalist.
Hughes deserves a ton of credit… his acquisitions this year were few, but Laine and Carrier filled important holes in a lineup that severely lacked depth only a year ago.
Of course the “biggest” new player was Hutson. A Calder Trophy season.
Yeah, the Canes made it a bit easier tonight (it shouldn’t be hard to beat a team playing Kotkaniemi as their 1st line C), but the Habs earned the right to be in this position partly by getting at least one point in every home game since Four Nations.
Great to see such good games tonight by 3 young players at the current core of this team… Monty, Slaf and Guhle.
And Suzuki is a true leader.
The future, especially with Demidov, looks really promising.
Bring on the playoffs!
