Post-Game Talk: MTL win 4-2 and clinch playoffs!!

The Slaf-Caufield bromance is so adorable.

It makes me laugh because Slaf ONLY starts jumping up and down because Cole is doing it and just wants to BE like him so bad it's funny because Cole himself is still in the 'I'm just a kid in the NHL!' Phase but he's 24 and 70 pts and it's like 'time for the next level bud' and he's gotta be like oh shit that's right lol I'm a leader now

Just all around funny lol

Finally watched the game... well... Have to say that it was never in doubt. Like not once.

We are in da f***ing playoffs!

Buckle up boyz, 'cause

Wow. Truly amazing.

I thought this season was cooked for this team more than once…
- when their major off-season acquisition Laine got hurt in the same pre-season game as Reinbacher and for a few days looked to be out for the entire season
- then early December when the Habs were 2nd last in the whole league
- and then after that losing streak going into Four Nations.

I also had my doubts about St-Louis being the right coach beyond the first 2 seasons of the rebuild. He isn’t perfect, but he will get many coach of the year votes and may be an Adams trophy finalist.

Hughes deserves a ton of credit… his acquisitions this year were few, but Laine and Carrier filled important holes in a lineup that severely lacked depth only a year ago.

Of course the “biggest” new player was Hutson. A Calder Trophy season.

Yeah, the Canes made it a bit easier tonight (it shouldn’t be hard to beat a team playing Kotkaniemi as their 1st line C), but the Habs earned the right to be in this position partly by getting at least one point in every home game since Four Nations.

Great to see such good games tonight by 3 young players at the current core of this team… Monty, Slaf and Guhle.

And Suzuki is a true leader.

The future, especially with Demidov, looks really promising.

Bring on the playoffs!

I know this won't happen because MSL stays locked in with his winning formula - and they probably don't want to mess too much with Laval,
but I think they need to blow up the 2nd line. It's a black hole.
Who's the best C in Laval right now?
I'd move him to the 4th line - whichever that is, and move Evans up to play there with Demi and Laine.
At least he has more of an IQ than Newhook.
And yes i know it breaks up the Heineken armia line ..
and I'm also not sure who gets benched if someone is brought up from laval
It's a black hole because of Laine. Not much you can do unless you flat out demote him, which I don't see happening since we still have him another year.

Newhook and Demidov were starting to show some chemistry in the 2nd period. They were both reading each other well. Demidov only played one shift in the 3rd period while Laine played 3 which is definitely an issue considering Laine has a maximum compete level of 4% effort expenditure.

Yeah, I can't hate them. What they did this year was amazing. People thought they were a bubble team and then tragically losing their best player... and still doing what they did. Amazing. Add in that Monahan became one of my favourite players in Monrteal. Just a guy who loves to play hockey.... and yeah. I really wanted Columbus and Montreal to make it... but Ottawa was just too good down the stretch.

Laine looks so fired up here. I wish it translated to the ice. I chirp his effort level, but I'm not even sure it's that. I just don't think he moves as quickly as he processes the game anymore and obviously has become a bit of a liability 5 on 5.
