Proposal: MTL & PITT

Pitt should go all in on a rebuild, trading Crosby, Letang, Malkin, Karlsson ,

MTL would love Crosby and Letang and they sure would fit the team and trying to get the cup next year.
So let's pretend they go all in on the rebuild.

PITT : Crosby + Letang (14.8 mil)
for
MTL : 2 x 2025 first pick (#16 + #17) + Logan Mailloux + Owen Beck + Pitt 2nd 2025

Won't happen. Don't need to trade the core to rebuild anyway. They're a bad team with them. Reality is a large percentage of the fan base and probably the ownership as well will prolong a rebuild as long as possible until it is too late.

Crosby isn't going to waive his NMC. I don't know how many times he has to say it before fans get the idea.

Letang has also massively regressed at this point, so I'm not sure that Montreal should want him. I think it could be worth exploring a deal based around Letang for Gallagher, with the Penguins adding due to the extra term on Letang's deal, but that's about the only fit there I can see.

Letang would hurt us. We already have, statistically, the 4th best offensive dman in the league. What are we trading for the 51st best offensive dman for? Imagine a "defense" with Hutson, Matheson and Letang

If I'm throwing a bunch of 1st round picks, it's for a 2nd line center yes, but one that will be with us for 4 or 5 years, at a minimum

I'm not saying Crosby would leave Pitt. Just Montreal offers most opportunity. Personally, I don't think he will waive. I see Montreal keep their 2 first picks plus more. Go on the UFA or RFA market for a top 6 center, use his 8.7 million caphit to do it. Duchene or Tavares be my first picks. Similar to Stamkos contract last summer.
