I don't see Ottawa as willing to give up on cheap depth, and I don't see Montreal as willing to let Edmundson go for a return like that - useful players but don't seem to have potential for more than lower lines. (which are important for a team that wants to contend. Montreal ain't there, though)
Pezzetta is essentially worthless and might well end up on waivers at some point.
Well put.
I will say, Sokolov definitely has top 9 potential... but he's very boom bust. As a Sens fan who likes him, I would NOT say he is a lock to be a useful NHLer. If he does stick around, though, he should be a 15-25 goal guy who plays down low on a PP2... he is currently tied for the AHL lead in PP assists & points, and is tied for 15th in goals. The flip side of that? He has 5 ES pts in 21 games. AHL is a heavy PP league, to be fair, but still.
I definitely think he can be an effective PP player in the NHL... he is huge, strong, has good hands, creativity, and a BIG shot. If he can excel or even keep his head above water at ES.... that's another story. His skating has come a very long way, but maybe not far enough, and he still struggles defensively (last I saw, at least)
