Value of: MTL/NYI (Horvat) - MTL/LAK (Danault)

Then proceeded to put up 20 goals 50 points in multiple seasons. Your opinion on him was stupid then and stupid now
He was putting up similar numbers with us, while playing with the best wingers and the best defensive pairing, that's not good. At least in L.A, he was the #2C, which makes this production acceptable.

KK was still a young player that we just drafted #3, Danault was so inept offensively, that he forced the coach to put him on the third line with Lehky and Gally, at the end of the playoffs. Danault was regularly playing with bums like Pacioretty, Radulov(one season), Tatar, Gallagher, Petry, Weber... Our best players, poor him. Letting him go was the right move, we were rebuilding and we had to give developing time to KK and Suzuki.
KK plays on the 4th line in his prime in Carolina and he can't even sniff Danault's jock strap to this day. He couldn't even handle the NHL back then much less take over Danault's responsabilties.

That's with hindsight, at the time, he was our future C, that we drafted #3, we had to prioritize his and Suzuki's development. It worked well with Suzuki, not much with KK.

I doubt LA would move Danault without another decent option at 2/3c. We are supposedly contending and were "right there". Id be ok moving him if we upgraded at C (like traded for matthews or something) and Kopitar dropped to 3c but that doesnt seem realistic with the pieces we have.

We are possibly looking for a bit more physicallity in the top 6 , RS. Perhaps a little more dangle from LD and nasty from RD. In all honesty we are most likely moving futures for someone like Josh Andersson, yay.
If your targeting matthews your giving up guys that leave no one for him to play with (package if a few of kempe/byfield/fiala/clarke)

You wont ever get Matthews for Danault as the main piece of a deal.

Too much baggage to bring Danault back to MTL and I think Horvat is a bit too expensive. Teams aren’t just going to hand out players

What baggage?

And I'm not sure anyone actually paid attention to Montreal's end of season press conference if the thinking is they're going to use all their trade assets on guys in their 30s.

Pass. Mathews doesn't have that playoff gear.
Neither does any kings player currently

So if you want to acquire him dont throw a shit ball offer pretending his playoffs justifies the cost.

If your targeting matthews your paying a lot. If the leafs sold matthews because he wanted out or b/c we wanted to move on but he gave 1-2 options only then he wont bring back as much.

Don't want to acquire him. King's fans know what happens when too much money is tied up in guys that don't perform in the playoffs.

You dont say, I wasnt propsing Danualt for Matthews, hence why i said it doesnt seem realistic with the pieces we have

The only time I've ever seen LA Kings fans even consider moving Danault is if there's another top 9 center coming back the other way in the trade. I guess Dach, or even more likely Newhook would have to be involved.

I'm not so sure Horvat and Barzal will both be traded. Probably one or maybe none, and I think Barzal is the one more likely to be moved. If I was in charge they would both be traded, but hey, I'm not in charge. Tear the whole Islanders team down. Keep Holmstrom and MacLean. Pelech, and Engvall have negative value so keep them also. Maybe keep Tsyplakov and/or Sorokin for one or two years.

I think a big swing Montreal could attempt would be to send Laine, Dach, Matheson and pick(s)/prospect(s) for Horvat and Pulock. Not sure a deal could be made, but worth exploring.

I think maclean was the worst player in the NHL last year. Hes probably not in the re tool plan...

It’s all but confirmed Bergevin will get a role with the NYI. He spent a decade searching for a top 6 C in Montreal. If he gets the gig, there is 0 chance he trade Horvat or Barzal.

Much easier to find quality wings to put with the center than to find the quality center to put with the wings.

I still think NYI should go the rebuild mode but knowing Bergevin that’s not going to happen.

He’s very good with finding quality depth players. He probably think a core of Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Sorokin and 1OA is good enough to win a cup if he can build good depth down the line-up

It’s a solid core for sure with the right depth pieces. Finding quality bottom 6F/bottom pairing D is the easy part once they have a system in place so they know who to target. Seems like we’ll get a direction again so they know what type of player they want to target going forward.

Say Vancouver puts their 2025 1st (15th OA) and Wilander on the table, Montreal would have to exceed that at minimum and it would atleast cost the 16th and Hage. It seems like most Habs fans aren’t willing to do that but they will offer a lesser prospect, the same 1st and some low end filler as an offset (mid round pick or prospect aka AHL filler).
But some would. Didn't we agree on that in a previous thread ?
Hage + 17th I would do for Horvat.

We did agree on that but from what we’ve seen overall, Habs fans are expecting someone who teams aren’t willing to move in return for a package that most teams don’t care for. I can’t see a team taking Mailloux/Beck/Roy and that 16th for an under 30 T6 center who’s still in their prime and not slowing down.
If Horvat was available I’d do it for Hage and the 16th or a 2026 with t10 protection.

Forget it. Hage isn't going anywhere.

Well then I hope you guys don't get the Oilers again next year.

Get it? What you got ain't working. You guys need a change. Don't follow the Leafs playbook. Anywho this Habs fan isn't interested in bringing back Danault.
So, we should make a trade that will make the Kings worse, apparently you don’t get it.
