Post-Game Talk: MTL lose 5-2 against OTT

That was their third poor game in a row. It may well be that we shot our load getting this far and we have nothing in the tank.

I thought Newhook was our best player by a fair bit. Showed great speed and effort.

They better pick up their socks or that playoff spot may well vanish.
If he only had hands instead of hooks

Tough crowd. But not surprised. We are a pretty entitled and unforgiving fan base.

I remember in March of 1979 watching a game against Detroit when Montreal was in the midst its four Cup run and they lost a meaningless game to the then lowly Red Wings. The fans booed the team, rather lustily, as they skated off the ice at the end of the game.

Tough crowd.
Our starts have been poor for most of the year......coming from behind over and over is a recipe for disaster.....would you agree?
They need to start on time, so they can clinch and relax for a few days.....

Xhekaj SHOULD be in the lineup.

But never at the expense of Struble or Carrier. Both are much better defenseman than Xhekaj.

However, Xhekaj should draw in over Savard who has been horrible for weeks now. The only player even somewhat as bad as Savard has been Matheson, but he eats a lot of minutes, so he's much more important.
That last part gets repeated a lot around here. He Shouldn't be eating so many minutes. His gaffes are exponentially more numerous and disastrous as a result. Matheson is most effective when he plays less than 20 minutes, we've seen it. I mean can we stop making this a good argument? I'd rather MSL goes with 7D and cut out Pezz. That way you give yourself the flexibility of adjusting the D's minutes to fit the situation. It's not rocket science.

Nah,

You're expecting too little.
Nah,
I'm just being realistic. Nothing will make me happier if he scores a hat trick first game in.
I want him to succeed just don't put too much pressure on him.
Fans need to take it easy with the high expectations from the start, he's still only 19.

Yeah Matheson gives Breezer aura. Both guys overplayed and get hate, Matheson not as much as Breezer , but a good amount.

I agree Savard should be the guy to sit tonights game. So Xhekaj can have a go.

Most of our players had neither.

Newhook was our most dangerous player last night and he had the Senators defense on their heels as they had to respect Newhook’s great speed. More importantly, he displayed a high level of energy on a team that shockingly lacked the same in what could have been a clinching game. Newhook drove the play, he created scoring chances, he didn’t take a shift off and he was noticeable.

If the other Canadiens players would have showed an equal level of fire and drive, we would all be celebrating our securing of a playoff spot rather than the wringing of hands that you read here and the desperate suggestion that we should be throwing in an untested 19 year old into the fire to spark our suddenly dispirited team.

Newhook is the least of our problems.

You're right. It is not a good argument.... it's a fantastic one.

Matheson chews more minutes than David Savard for good reason. So I would not scratch him over Savard.

Struble is softer than ice cream? Get a grip. People don't know what soft means anymore. Struble is an all round better player. Take off the homer glasses for X
Well, let’s watch him closely tonight and see how tough he is and how he’s so much better all around. Let’s see if he comes to the aid of Hutson if he gets flattened against the boards, etc.

Yeah but is it part “ la game inside la game”

Would the three minutes of Xhekaj with none in the third, whether we're up or down, over the four minutes of Pezzetta make that much difference?
Maybe not, but maybe the knowledge that he’s on the bench would make the Leafs think twice before taking liberties with some of our mostly smaller players.

But he is one problem
