Post-Game Talk: MTL lose 5-2 against OTT

Matheson plays a ton and he's not going to scratch him, Savard has a role on the PK as well.

Xhekaj is competing against Struble and the latter has just been better in recent weeks, but his rope is as short as Xhekaj’a is.
That's the problem MSL keeps playing the vets despite their numerous mistakes every game, and singles out the rookies. Less TOI for Math and sit Savard, he needs a rest.

Did you just choose to close your eyes when I said Suzuki/Hutson? You know, the two who have dragged us into this position in the first place?
Hutson is one of the 2 rookies I mentioned.
Suzuki is the 3rd guy, after the 2 I mentioned.
I maintain what I said. If 2 rookies, one of which has never played in NA, need to drag us into the playoffs, we shouldn't make the playoffs. We'll get annihilated.

So it's fine if Suzuki/Hutson can drag us here kicking an screaming, but it's unreasonable to think they can help us get that last regulation win? Makes perfect sense.

They've already dragged us into here. Not our fault the other teams don't have players as good as these two.

Seems like Matheson is trying to do too much. Now that Hutson has supplanted him as the #1 perhaps he’s trying to hard to be the big dog again. Biting him in the ass.

Never said it was fine.

I said it in the Demidov thread and got dunked for it, I don't think this team ready to compete. We're still lacking in top end talent. We don't have a #2 C, we don't have a #2 D, and we won't have a real #1 G for another 3 years at the earliest.

It's cool that Suzuki and Hutson and Caulfield dragged us, but it's also costly, and useless in the grand scheme of things.

If the habs showed up for period one, they could have easily got at least a point. These sleepy starts are a luxury they can't afford. As much as I would've liked to beat the sens again, at least we should see a good bounce back against Toronto. Dobes will be coming a strong performance, and the team is going to be hungry to get that WC spot locked up.

I think Heineman is a possibility. Engels says no chance Demidov plays. I can see them intentionally holding off on Heineman because of the back to back. I would exchange Savard for Xhekaj, but not Struble.

It is not useless if they get some playoff experience.

I completely disagree with the last part. As for the habs competing, they're still in the final stage of their rebuild when they start adding players via trade/FA to surround the core and will need to do so in the next 2 offseasons. Only delusional people think they're ready to compete even with Demidov.

But even getting a bit of playoff experience for a team and a core that hasn't seen a playoffs in the last 3 seasons/ever in their career and have only been apart of tanking teams is nothing but positive. It allows them to experience playoff hockey before they actually start to compete so they're not green when they make it next time. There's absolutely no argument for stating that making the playoffs is anything other than good for the team (unless you think they should have tanked again even in a shitty draft like this year)

Finally finished (for the most past skipping though) the game. Thank god, Xhekaj didn't play. Oof... really dodged the bullet, there.

FFS... what will it take to get through st louis' thick head that you have to have muscle in your lineup. God! What a moron! And for the like zillion's time Habs fail to start the game on time. Can st louis get a clue? It was sad to watch sensators running around like they are tough guys without any push back. Anderson is probably so banged up he can't adequately push back. Pezz had a decent scrap but so what? He doesn't do anything else. If coach wasn't so obtuse, Arbs could have been given a green light to go after a couple of sens stars like stutzle... it would have quickly calmed them down.

Oh well... gotta wait and hopefully win the chicago game, because sure as hell not beating the leafs playing like they did tonight... and again not showing up for about half the game.

Chalk it up as a mental letdown after such and intense past couple weeks and finally building up a cushion. Disappointing, but I'm not worried.

At least Xhekaj probably draws back in tomorrow.
Why? What possible indication do you have that it would happen? Did st louis had an epiphany of some kind? Savard all da way, baby!!!

It's so obvious MSL has shown favoritism towards Math and Savard, and gives the rookie no rope.
It's weird for me to see an NHL coach who's still pretty green do this old dinosaur way of coaching. I know MSL never cared much for defense... But the team was always better when Savard didn't play and when Matheson had 15-17 minutes of ice instead of 32+.

Xhejai being in the dog house like this also really doesn't make sense. I have a feeling its become personal at this point. Also play Pezz has got to be a slap in the face. Can we really afford to play him?

Rookie?

Xhekaj is a 24 year old tweener 6th-7th D who has shown he doesn't have the consistency to play every night
Savard is a 73 arthritic geriatric gorilla that doesn't know how to skate and he gets a free pass? I'd rather have the 24 year old who can throw his body around and punch faces than a gorilla in a clown suit.
