The moral of the story is that goalie's are Voodoo!

The only real "actual" MTL goalie debate that most of the fanbase talked about was the Halak-Price one years ago when Halak was robbing Ovechkin in the playoffs and Price was having growing pains in his development. Thank God we didn't trade Price

All the other "debates" on Niemi, Condon and Lindgren were more about whether they were decent backups rather than #1 goalies.

Pierre Gauthier's best decision.

Thank God he resisted the knee jerk reaction of a number of Canadiens fans.

Trade tree: Halak traded for Eller (and a nobody).

Eller trader for 2 second-rounders, one of which was traded to Edmonton for the pick used on Jordan Harris.

Jordan Harris traded for Patrick Laine and a second-rounder in 2026.

Consistency, year in and year out from goalies is the hard part of their development. Price came in smoking hot, winning the Calder cup for the farm club after he finished his WHL career (so not even in his first full year as a pro). Only played 12 regular season games for the AHL team, and 22 in the PO before being a full time member of the Habs team. Then had some growing pains after an initial strong start.

It takes time for goalies to hit their stride. So, should not expect Fowler is going to leave BC after 24/25 and be the #1 guy in a year at the NHL level. That's really high expectations for a kid and probably not realistic. Have to be willing to give the kid time in the A and time as a backup at least.

Exactly.

Fans appreciated Peter "Flanders" Budaj because he was a great backup due to his disposition, but that was the extent of it.

Neimi, Condon, and the other riffraff were never even overrated. Only Lindgren, who was once touted as a serious prospect who might develop into a starting goaltender (which he did, but not with us) to replace Price was highly touted.

Claiming idolization is disconnected from history and reality.
Yeah. What he said.

Remember Tokarski for a 1st?

Niemi stealing Price's job?

Condon starter goalie?

I remember.
The only person who got serious consideration as a Price replacement was Halak, following that stellar run in '10. And I admit I was one who felt that way, not thinking that Price was not an excellent goalie, just that he would not be able to reach the heights of his potential in Montreal (and at that time he wasn't doing anything to suggest otherwise).

I am sure that I remember Oilers fans saying they can't win with McDavid. I've read Pens fans saying it's time to rebuild and trade Crosby. Does that make consensus or is it just a few outliers running contrary to popular opinion? You seem to be making generalized statements about the fan-based based on the posts few you recall and/or the people who may have whined the most. Look up user 'Slafy' and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I thought it was pretty obvious I wasn't speaking about the whole fanbase, but I guess people read way too much into what I wrote.

I know pretty much every regular Habs poster, I know who he is.

A few more backsteps and you'll get off the edge of that cliff.

It might have been obvious in your mind, but it sure wasn't to the vast majority who read that statement.

Nothing wrong in adding a few "some of the Canadiens fans" or "a few of them"...

I repeatedly said what I meant and you keep playing childish games. My position hasn't changed.

I am sorry if how I write offends you, but at this point I did what I could to help you.

No idea what this crusade is doing for you, but it's starting to get sad.

I liked what I saw with Primeau last year but he's been very bad this season. Last season, the Habs ran with 3 goalies for most of the year and Primeau had more preparation time?

I still think he can become a decent NHL goalie but might take a while (like Lindgren). What I do know with Primeau is he is very hard worker so I'm sure he puts lots of energy in trying to improve. His days with the Habs appear to be numbered. Monty, Fowler, Dobes are ahead of Primeau now
