That is possible. You hope the management team has a handle on a players character when they hand out long term deals.Once they filthy rich some lose incentive

Not a mistake. Teams have to take these kinds of chances in the hard cap era. If Slafkovsky turned into a player then the Habs have a steal and have extra dollars to build out their supporting cast. But their management needs to decide right now (earlier the better) if they did make a mistake and move the pkayer while he’s got good value. Wait, and he doesn’t turn it around, and that kind of big cap hit can hurt the club a lot.Looks like a terrible mistake here by the Habs.
At a minimum it puts them in a very unenviable and precarious position. I'm not so sure his value is that good. He probably has more internal value than anything. Hope for his and their sake he starts producing. Not a mistake. Teams have to take these kinds of chances in the hard cap era. Personally he’s not my kind of player with a top pick. Certainly he’s got the high ceiling that teams covet with high picks, but he’s got a low floor too. I just don’t think giving him a big contract instead of a bridge, because of his low floor, was smart. But I’m on my sofa, and not an nhl GM, so it’s easy to say that. Hughes and Habs management are proven winners. They now the risk vs the reward and figured this player is worth the risk.At a minimum it's puts them in a very unenviable and precarious position. Is Skafkoski’s pedigree great though? Certainly he has the physical tools to be great, but what’s in his pedigree to show that? These responses will either age well in 12 months or be completely on point (looking at someone like Byfield who has stalled in his development).
My bet is on the former...his pedigree is too good.
He's a big boy who has excelled against men in international tournaments. Is Skafkoski’s pedigree great though? Certainly he has the physical tools to be great, but what’s in his pedigree to show that?
Hughes has made a lot of mistakes. Gave Slaf big money to early. Whatever happened to bridge deals?
Aren't you already upset that you got Zegras out of a 9th overall and he is now 23 ?I can't even begin to imagine how upset I'd be if the Ducks finally got a first overall pick and this dude was the player we got out of it

Then you can imagine we are not upset with Slaf at 20yo... Because of 27 games.
And why would you not include last year ?!If you do not include last season the guy has 6 goals in 66 games, which averages to 7.5 goals a season while making 7.6m a year lmao
Officially making 1m per goal. On pace for 6 goals this year.
