Speculation: MTL exploring acquiring Lafreniere from NYR

Wasn’t it a Habs reporter and fan who started this thread? Why the heck would Lafreniere be the topic if not that he’s from Montreal?
Because the claim is that NYR has offered Laf to MTL. Why wouldn’t that be reported?

1. Tony Marinaro is not a reporter. He's a "sports personality" (radio host/podcaster) who has some connections but mostly just says shit to draw views. OP assumed that Marinaro pretending a blog report from a US writer means something constituted a rumour.

2. Lafreniere is a former 1st OA pick who has generated rumours out of NY. Of course people will mention Montreal, but it's not like there aren't Lafreniere threads without the Habs.

3. There is no hometown plus.

And it’s “speculation” by the reporter. Why speculate about Lafreniere unless it’s because he’s from Montreal?
Because he’s a former first overall pick and he’s likely available. He also fits in with the Habs core in terms of age. That’s why.

In any case, unless he comes cheap, I doubt the Habs have any interest. The Rangers are likely asking for Slaf, Guhle, or Reinbacher. Those are complete non-starters.

I have a hard time determining if Laf sucks just because NYR is such a disaster.

Especially because Kakko got out and immediately started producing more.
He went from checking line center to first line winger, his production was gonna go up no matter what

That said, NYR doesn’t exactly have a glittering track record when it comes to developing young forward talent

Unless Laf plays C or RD it’s not a priority so would have to be cheap, assuming Rangers are moving him to free up cap space to avoid off sheets and/or to go big game hunting

Lots of clubs would be in on Lafreniere; he wouldn’t come cheap.

There's no chance that the Habs trade Guhle to add Laf. It's laughable to even suggest it.
One of the Habs 1st rd pick and a prospect is the best i would offer. Don't like it look elsewhere.
Correction, its Laffable to think the Habs would trade Guhle for Laf!

Same will be true for Laf. You can’t just say “woof he only had 45 points” without any context. Laf was 2nd on the Rangers in 5v5 production. He got virtually no opportunity on the power play because Lavi never put him on the 1st unit. Panarin, Mika, Fox are too stubborn to change after 60 seconds, so NYR PP2 only get 20 seconds beginning with the puck on Igor’s stick. Play Laf on PP1 and his numbers would pop.

Woof, 45 points in D + 5.

If in 2 years, Slaf produces 45 points, Habs fans will be trying to peddle him off on another team to salvage value.

So i don’t fault NYR fans…

English must be a second language because you missed the entire point of my post.

Can’t argue with a wall. Enjoy Slaf. NYR are happy to hold on to Laf. ✌🏻
