Because the claim is that NYR has offered Laf to MTL. Why wouldn’t that be reported?

1. Tony Marinaro is not a reporter. He's a "sports personality" (radio host/podcaster) who has some connections but mostly just says shit to draw views. OP assumed that Marinaro pretending a blog report from a US writer means something constituted a rumour.

2. Lafreniere is a former 1st OA pick who has generated rumours out of NY. Of course people will mention Montreal, but it's not like there aren't Lafreniere threads without the Habs.

3. There is no hometown plus.

Because he’s a former first overall pick and he’s likely available. He also fits in with the Habs core in terms of age. That’s why.

In any case, unless he comes cheap, I doubt the Habs have any interest. The Rangers are likely asking for Slaf, Guhle, or Reinbacher. Those are complete non-starters.

There's no chance that the Habs trade Guhle to add Laf. It's laughable to even suggest it.
One of the Habs 1st rd pick and a prospect is the best i would offer. Don't like it look elsewhere.

He got virtually no opportunity on the power play because Lavi never put him on the 1st unit. Panarin, Mika, Fox are too stubborn to change after 60 seconds, so NYR PP2 only get 20 seconds beginning with the puck on Igor’s stick. Play Laf on PP1 and his numbers would pop.
