Rumor: MTL exploring acquiring Lafreniere from NYR

Why would they need to do anything to the Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky line? It’s one of the best in the league and only getting better.

If it’s a deal, it’s for the second line and an attempt to capitalize on Lafrenière as a buy-low candidate. It’s very unlikely any premium assets are involved from MTL’s end.

This would be picks or prospects from MTL in exchange for eating the full cap hit of an underperforming player. They’ve done it before - got paid to do it, in fact.

I wonder if this is being reported this way, but the actual news is that the Rangers offered him to Montreal and so while the headline may be "correct", it's more that the Rangers are trying to acquire a particular player or players and they offered Lafreniere to Montreal to see if they could do that.

If I'm Montreal unless it's a 1 for 1 for Laine, with maybe a small add from Montreal, I turn this down flat.

If he could get out of NYR and consistently be even a 60-70 point guy, the contract isn't that bad.
His contract isn't terrible and he seems to produce 5 on 5, no?

He's just not the best on the pp AND should produce more 5 on 5 when he mostly plays with Panarin.

Those are the major knocks on him from the Rangers stand point?

If you are a Rangers fan, or watch the Rangers frequently ?

16th + Mailloux

but Im not convinced Hughes wants to add $7.5M for 7 years for a player whos put up 45, 57, 39 pts in his last 3 seasons..... this on top of the Hutson and Demidov contracts looming AND needing a 2C with a presumably big contract.
