Why are we taking on two cap dumps and retaining?

Byron is far from a cap dump. He makes 1,1M$ and earns every damn cents of it.

DD is necesary to make the trade work this season. He is UFA at end of the year so no impact on Calgary whatsoever.

i Think beaulieu, 1st and Byron would be 3 pretty good pieces for you guys, two of them helping right now, on pretty cheap contratcs.

I'm not interested in this trade. However Montreal will send some draft picks to Calgary for Wideman.

Wideman would definitely be available, but I don't think the cost would be multiple picks. Wideman for Desharnais in my opinion would make sense as a change of scenery would he good for each player I think. But with the salary difference and the Flames unwillingness to retain salary in trades the Habs might still talk at the deal.

There's room to negotiate here. Desharnais is the odd man out in Montreal, as Danault has likely stolen his spot on the third line. Interesting proposal.

My thought was something like this:

to MTL:
- Wideman

to CGY:
- Desharnais
- Redmond

My thinking is since it brings in a healthy D it will allow a D to be sent down as well, so it would come close to evening out the cap.
