That's the only way otherwise there can't be any trade because logically, it can't be pushed into the future where the Habs rise in the standings. Or it can be 6-8 1st OR a 1st and a 3rd if it's 9-15 OR a 1st and a 2nd if it's 16th and up. Something that protects Buffalo if it's done well before draft day. Given our center situation, that would be in the miracle range.

Mehh...It probably has to be a handshake deal until draft day. Given my recent experience in the real world, that's worth close to nothing, but maybe because it's such a small GM community, it may mean something.

usually having both fan bases not like the trade because each thinks they're giving up too much, means the value is about right.

But, not sure why Buffallo wants to give up Peterka. They're stacked at LD and our pick after the Monahan trade could be anywhere from 3rd to 12th after the Monahan trade. It's very risky on both sides.

Montreal doesn’t want to give up their1st and thry overvalue their spare parts.

in a re-draft Peterka easily goes in the top 15.

Habs are not giving up a top-6 pick. Habs will be picking top-6 this season or better. Habs will likely trade the Jets late 1st round pick.

Xhekaj isn't a spare part.

And if Peterka goes top 15, that's not a reason to give up potentially the 3rd to 6th overall pick in the upcoming top heavy draft.

No. The Habs wouldn’t !!

nothing against Peterka, I like him just not at that cost.
look the Habs are building a dynamic D core with a vast array of skill's…Xhekaj, Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Barron, Struble, Harris, Kova …..(in no particular order) all young & most, knocking at the door. Their forward core hasn’t been healthy since the rebuild began and needs to improve, the Monahan picks will be used to improve F’s With a big splash during the offseason.

Some rebuilding teams get a 3-5 year head start by drafting “no brainer’s” like McDavid others like the Habs have to do it the old fashioned way, by losing, lol. These three years have been difficult but lots of positives.

Exactly. Top 6. When you draft top 5 you’re not expecting a top 6 player but a top line player. There’s level to this thing is Peterka is just not on the level of a top 5 player.

If it was a straight up, one for one trade, this is an easy win for one particular team. Montreal's management would be idiots for not making the trade.

People love overvaluing their picks. Picks 6-9 (which is most likely where the habs finish) are far from guaranteed stars, we see this EVERY SINGLE year.

Look at the numbers:

Picks 6-9 on average will land you a player that will end his career with a season by season 82 game average of about 42 points. Peterka is going to smash that easily as we can see by his play in the NHL THIS YEAR.

Over the last 5 years you've had guys like Matt Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Sergachev, Quinn Hughes drafted in that range...But for all of those you've also had the Alex Nylander, Olli Juolevi, Lias Andersson, Cody Glass, Filip Zadina's of the world.

Would you trade the pick + Xhekaj for Keller or Tkachuk? easily
Would you trade the pick + Xhekaj for Andersson or Glass? never

Ultimately, Peterka is a known commodity, and a damned good one at that. Furthermore, this draft is a D heavy one, the forward class is nothing special and the Habs don't need more D lol.
