MSG Networks now leaves Optimum. Now what do I do?

Streaming services with live tv are cable. They have to pay the same price for the channels as cable, so of course the prices are going to come out the same.

What are you using for internet? I gotta imagine a decent speed internet plus $82.99 for YouTubeTV has to be pretty close to the same cost as just a fios bundle of internet/tv

Using the Xfinity "Ultrafast" plan with download speed up to 1 Gbps, though the intro price just recently expired so I might look at other options (it's now up to $121 a month). I'm sure Verizon could probably come in much lower if I switch.

Had previously used a lower internet speed without any issues with YouTubeTV, but I also have two teenaged boys that will play games online with friends, so I had to upgrade the speed for that.

The "Choice" package seems to be the lowest that includes msg which is what I'm looking to switch to. I don't think I'd need to add the extra $15 per month sports package cost to the cost of the plan but I'm not 100% sure

How bad is the lag behind the actual game? Gotham seems pretty behind.

For me, it's a minor oddity, as I said only about 60 to 80 seconds behind what appears to be live.

For example the shows covering New Years Eve countdown to 2025 - the shows visual countdown were about a min just about, behind reality when the countdown happened according to my phone clock.

Unless you find that bad, for me its only noticable since with Verizon FiOS TV everything was synced close, and if you follow live GDT you might find the posts here saying goal just prior to you seeing it on stream.

My motivation to move was Verizon was charging a lot for TV but I was getting far less channels I actually wanted or needed and then what I would have been charged to get those packages were out of line.

With DTV (based on north jersey) no problems with regional sports: MSG channels, SNY, YES, etc.

Streaming quality seems excellent, wouldn't know any different vs cable feed. DVR abilities seem pretty good.

I cancelled optimum cable this morning. They attempted to keep me, offered a few credits to the account and tried everything to not get me to cancel. I ended up keeping the WiFi internet for now which comes to around 120 per month (lol my full cable bill with DVR was 150ish). They also offered a fiber optic WiFi option that requires installation for $70 a month. I’m just gonna go over options in my area but that might be the cheapest just for Internet.

Anyone have just the Gotham app for MSG+? I think it works out to around 20 bucks a month?
i realize it might not be an option for everyone but i dropped optimum in october when they ditched cable cards. went to verizon and never been happier. the internet is constant you can control everything from the app and no need to call them. i hate hate hate hate hate optimum and i get it verizon probably isn't any better but cancelling optimum felt so good!

Are you referring to Verizon Fios or do you have a 5G internet gateway? I checked if Fios is available in my area and apparently it’s still not offered otherwise I would have went with them. I work for Verizon Wireless in their legal department and would get a decent discount on Fios too. Kinda sucks.

Should've put this in this thread --

I've been reading everyone's grievances on this topic for many days now but I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post anything about using VPN or "circumventing". But since the topic is open now, I'll fill you all in the best solution --

VPN + NHL.tv

NHL.tv has zero black outs and it doesn't care where the game is available in the US. You have access to every single game with both home and away audios and full access to every single game replay on demand. I paid $116 for the entire year (calendar year) so it'll include playoffs.

Get a cheap vpn (I use privatevpn - $72 for 36 months) and connect to any european country (prefer switzerland) and I can stream effortlessly. The pings are 130ish but it still streams in full HD without a glitch.

Enjoy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if a person with unending disposable income was willing to pay for whatever app/package and did nothing but follow Devils hockey they probably still wouldn't figure out how to watch every game, so no new fan is going to put in the effort. I have no idea why NHL doesn't understand this, if you can't accidently stumble across a game, you aren't getting new people to watch.

I tried doing it legit but there is no easy way, especially in the area I'm in, blacked out on both ends (nhl package and MSG) a lot of time because I'm both in market and out of it somehow. It feels like trying to get access to outside media in North Korea just to watch a sport they are begging people to watch, it's insane.

Anyone know if the NHL network games are already scheduled for the rest of the season or do they decide month by month?

Directtv stream is another option that would carry everything if you do the "choice" package.

I'm calling optimum over the weekend. I don't understand the offer they gave for Fubo. If I did that offer, why would I continue with optimum?
It's the only option (with ESPN+) to get every Devils game no matter where it's shown. In or out of market.

Sucks that it's it's pretty expensive.
