OT: Movie Thread

Gotta admit, this looks good. Despite Clark Kent looking like Patrick Dempsey in Can't Buy Me Love.

Since this is the movie thread I guess this should be OK. Anybody here own or have an opinion ( good or bad ) about Hisense TVs ???? Apparently over the last 4 or 5 years Hisense has gone from a bargain bin brand to one of the better TV brands out there. I've been doing some research and the Hisense U88N ( I think it's called the U8N in the States ) has very good reviews when it comes to sports viewing which is my main requirement. Right now the 65-inch version is selling for just under $1500 so I am hoping that I can get it a lot cheaper this coming Boxing Day. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 65 inch U7N. I paid $700 about a month ago i think.

It’s surprisingly bright and the colors are great. I was nervous about it too because I’m a brand snob with screens, but this is a solid buy. Sound output is great for the money. A little dirty screen effect, but i only notice if i watch fairly close up and from an angle.

I’ve heard the U8N is several tiers ahead but i couldn’t touch the price

If i was gonna double my budget I would try to find a Samsung OLED, but I wouldnt rule out the Hisense on name alone. It’s a very good tv

How do you like watching fast sports ( like hockey and football ) on it ????
I don’t watch football, but hockey is great. I find that hockey is one of the more difficult programs to display because of the full screen white/gray of the ice, with fast moving dark colors over it. Then the digital ads on the wall add another layer of complexity.

I can actually keep everything totally clear and smooth, zero blur including the ads on the boards when the camera shifts down the ice. But doing so with all of the motion smoothing settings leaves a little static at times just below the boards. So i keep most of those advanced settings either on the very lowest setting or off entirely.

Even still, i get zero motion blur from helmets, jerseys, sticks, which at times I did see on my bottom of the barrel 58 inch Samsung.

For hockey, i think with most screens at the $1000 area it’s just luck of the draw in the panel lottery. Just Google panel lottery and try not to have anxiety buying a tv lol

I appreciate the input. :thumbu:

Carry-On was a good holiday thriller, though requires a suspension of disbelief. Though I'm a bit surprised by Jason Bateman playing a completely straight dramatic role. Plus, that guy never ages.

Spoilers ahead but I feel like
Dean Norris is becoming the new Sean Bean for dying in like every movie or show he has a role in.

I just saw a clip of him on"The Tonight Show" where he was telling stories about everyone. He was about 30, I think. You are right, he never ages. He looks almost the same now as then.

Since the end of the Hogan Family he's looked just about the same. I think he's permanently 30 years old

Why would him playing a straight dramatic role surprise you when one of his greatest works was Ozark

I started to watch that Angelina Jolie movie about Maria Callas last night. It's bad, very bad. Couldn't finish. Took what could've been an interesting biopic subject and made it confusing as hell. And Angelina Jolie trying to lipsynch to opera was cringe. Also featured the worst portrayal of JFK I've ever seen in my life.

My A Complete Unknown review which I think I forgot to share a couple weeks ago. Longest review I have ever written.

FANTASTIC review. Can’t wait to see it tomorrow.

“They’re desperate to connect with him—to make sense of him—but they can’t. And the harder they try the worse they feel. He’s always so far away even when he’s right there.“

Chef’s kiss my friend!

Look forward to your review of Deliver Me from Nowhere next year!

Thanks for the post, you just saved me 2hrs. My wife's been wanting to watch that and I've been holding off.

We did watch Lee last night on Hulu however. Its a biopic about Lee Miller with Kate Winslet in the starring role. My wife teaches photography and is a big fan of her work. I've never heard of her before and she liked the film more than I did, but it wasn't bad....
