Moves you've really liked the past few years

Change-of-pace thread. Name a move the Rangers made in the past few years that you really liked.

For me it's easy. Signing a then-25-year-old Anton Stralman to a one-year/$900,000 deal two months after being cut from Devils training camp. Someone made a great call there. Three years later and he's become one of my favorite players on the team. His game has gotten better and better each year, and he's shown to be a guy who plays at a higher gear in the playoffs.

I'm fond of the boyle trade, he's become a very useful and serviceable player for us.

Kotalik for Prust was great too, I loved Prust.
 
I really liked the Drury deal at the time despite the price tag. He was exactly what the team needed when he first signed.

I knew he would break down eventually, I just thought it would be 2 or 3 years after his contract with us was up. It's a shame he broke down at 32.

I remember that trade being pretty criticized here. I think any trade that can acquire a NHL player, whether it be a star or a 4th line center, for a mid-round draft pick is a total success. The best that you can hope for in a 3rd-7th rounder is someone who contributes for your team at the NHL level.

I still like the Gaborik signing. He's one of the few big money signings that has worked out. He carried our team for a few seasons.

Stralman signing was also great. Such an underrated player. Huge fan of Zuccarello as well.
 
My joy over not only trading Gomez, but, greeting McDonagh in return, cannot be overstated. Drafting Kreider, a player I severely wanted the Rangers to select also had me delirious. Both were done within ten days of each other.
 
Jagr coming to NY changed the complexion of the franchise. In addition, and I'm going to steer in a direction away from players, but I think Renney and Tortorella also added to the club's persona. It's a business and I think both coaches were let go at about the right times, but I think the organization moved in positive directions because of both coaches.
 
There are a lot more moves I hated at first then ended up loving than moves I loved from the start:

Nigel Williams for Stu Bickel. I know people **** on Bickel, but the Rangers got over a season of NHL play and a hard-nosed team-first d-man back for an absolute pathetic waste of space in Williams.
 
The Prust deal stands out because it was deal that actually involved good talent evaluation on the Rangers' part. Why they have been unable to make similar moves for useful yet unheralded players.

Wasn't a fan of the Stralman signing at the time, and I think he's a bit overrated around here lately, but you can't deny what a shrewd pick-up that was given how he's played for us.

For me, the Prust deal was the one highlight that jumps out at me. It was the one time where the pro-scouting for this team really came through and landed us an impact player in a mid-season trade, IMO.
 
Bringing back Zuccarello after his KHL season ended last year. Thomas for Kristo. I was a big fan of the Pouliot signing. Letting Prust walk.
 
My two favorite moments in recent history were drafting Kreider in 09 and Miller in 11. Exactly who I wanted them to pick.

I liked the Nash trade a lot at the time too. Still do, though the shine has dulled a bit. Miss watching Dubinsky and Anisimov. But Nash when he's on is still so exciting to watch.
 
In a vacuum some of the moves make sense, in culmination the results are what they are.

I would have made the Nash trade, although I do not think they needed to include a first, what was Columbus going to do if the Rangers said no to the first?

Would have made the Gaborik trade as well.

Like that they moved away from Torts, am not a huge fan of his replacement though.

The McD Gomez trade, I was just happy to be without Gomez and his contract, getting McD(who I had no idea about) was the best move.

Now had they done those things as well as not made as many mistakes, Tyutin, Korp, Wolski, Umberger, Clowe, Jessiman, etc, ect, as well as sold some random players at deadlines, Betts, Prospal, Eminger, etc this team probably would be in better shape right now as well as in the future.
 
My favorite move by far was when we let prust go and traded for nash, effectively destroying our chances at a cup in my lifetime.

oh...wait...you said favorite...oh...oh you did, oh.
 
even though it was during the dark years, i did love the trade for Barnaby and the Chris Simon signings...
 
Flipping Garth Murray for Marcel Hossa was a pretty good job by the Rangers. And so was flipping Chris Simon for Blair Betts.

Taking the chance on Zuccarello in the first place and sticking with him. At least one good instance of the teams scouting doing a good job identifying a skilled player and acquiring him. I know it seems like they drove him off after the end of the 2011-2012 season but they qualified him as a RFA to keep his rights and stated they wanted to keep him, so I don't think the Rangers ever wanted to just let him get away for nothing and it's great that they brought him back
