Post-Game Talk: Mother's Day No Show: Leafs Lose 2-0

There will be a lot of media and fan hand-wringing leading up to Wednesday night, and then the Leafs will go out and take care of business like games 1 and 2, although I still wouldn't be surprised to see a couple more overtime games in this series.
Was praying you wouldn't say anything after being wrong about game 3 and wrong about game 4. Now I see we're going to lose the series.

Matthews doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.

He looked like this in the Montreal series collapse. Wasn't injured. No showed in the Columbus series. Wasn't injured. Was a ghost in Game 7 vs Tampa when we lost. Wasn't injured. Flat out no showed the first Florida series. Wasn't injured.

He was injured in the Boston series and had no issue bailing on the team down 3-1. No explanation ever given.

So now that he's playing like his somewhat awful playoff self and hurt? Sorry, no sympathy.

I'm at the point at which I am just holding on for them to sign McJesus and then ditch Captain America.

I loved Marner when he entered the league but am severely disappointed in him so am cool with them letting him walk this summer, addition by subtraction. JT can come back if he signs a very team friendly deal. The money saved from those two can completely remake the team, even with some being saved for McJesus.

You know, I really believed in Berube. Then last night's game changed that - Jarnkrok, McMann, and Holmberg should never have been in game four - surely the coach knew they don't have the make-up to stand up for what Florida playoff hockey demands.

So they had been successful, but he should have changed things? Brilliant.

Berube has now been absorbed into The Body; whatever aggressive macho edge that coach brought with him to Toronto does not exist anymore.

Christ, get over yourself.

It's getting attention because it's an awful hit and Domi is moron.
It's a bad hit for sure. It's also the Panthers so I don't care. Refs are making it clear that dirty hits are allowed (i.e. Kulikov elbow to Marner's head). If Panthers want to play dirty hockey then I'm fine with the Leafs dishing it back. That's just me though.

With Captain America it feels like such a massive hangover from that 69 goal campaign.

He went from golden boy, highest paid contract in the game, captaincy of the Leafs, his country, to hurt -!: mismanaging his health to trying to do it all with Team USA and damaging his own playoff reputation even more all in a 13 month span.

Embarrassing loss... Just completely dominated all game.

At least when we used to lose, we'd pepper them with shots and go out swinging. This just felt like slowly waiting to lose.

Wouldn't be surprised if Domi is suspended. Stupid hit, and honestly I'm surprised we haven't already gotten our yearly suspension. Crazy how squeaky clean Florida is.

We better hope that Bobrovsky hasn't woken up...

Ultimately this is the best test for this core, this Florida team is entirely beatable and not the juggernaut they were last year.

There is also no clear favorite/stacked team this year either so a cup path is as good as it's going to get. If they can't dig in and get it done in year 9 of this experiment it shows what a lot of us feared, that they were never a serious threat, hopefully they prove that wrong.

We will see, there's really no excuses left:
Nylander has been fantastic
Tavares has been great
Marner has been solid
Knies has stepped up massively
The D core is decent and as good as it has been
Woll hasn't been great, but he was amazing last game and the only reason it wasn't 3-4-5 0 going into the 3rd

Eventually you have to get it done and it's just that simple, Tkachuk isn't 100% for Florida either and they're a degraded team from last year too, so again this isn't juggernaut Florida

Woll’s original sin was to come out and play Game 3 so unprepared and deflate his team. By the time he showed up in Game 4 the team in front of him was already in shambles. If they can’t get on the same page this series is going to be over very quickly. May already be over.

But I would put the blame squarely on Woll for really blowing it in Game 3. That effort plus AM34 are sinking the Leafs this series.
I don't think that's fair to Woll to be honest. Bob has been terrible the first couple of games. Imagine if the Panther players had that same attitude. If the Leafs are "in shambles" because Woll had a bad game three, yet Florida can come out and take it to the Leafs after Bob has a terrible game 1 and 2 (and mediocre 3) then that says WAY more about the Leafs players than it does about Woll.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Reilly, etc. have all had bad games this playoffs. Maybe Woll deserves to be in Shambles after seeing that Matthews and Marner are only good for 1 goal a series. Or seeing Plugs like McMann and Holmberg do absolutely nothing on the ice.

Bob blew game 1 & 2 and it's now a tied series. Leafs better get it together and win game 5 because Woll gave them the opportunity to win game 4 and THEY blew it. Taking dumb penalties and scoring no goals is the quintessential way to blow a playoff game.

Robertson for McMann or for Jarnkrok? I think the bottom 6 definitely need a shakeup. Maybe Robbie can come in and tuck one in the net? McMann has done nothing.

I rather keep McMann and drop Jarnkrok
McMann's first playoffs, at least he hits

Really not sure what Jarnkrok brings that others don't.

Would McDavid sign to a team that has a D core of 33 year old Rielly, 37 year old Tanev, 35 year old OEL, 33 year old McCabe?

not "might of went" it's might've gone. Yes I'm the grammar police, just kidding. He does seem to embellish too much and sooner or later the refs will catch on to him.
Busted once again by the grammer police, something bad must gave happened to you to be so petty, just kidding……..

His record says different.
His team would be in the box with 5 minute majors and suspensions quite literally every single game, if the rulebook was actually enforced against them. Not an exaggeration. It's every single game that they headshot someone and there's no penalty or discipline from the league.

All that’s missing is convincing Mo to leave with Captain America……

When have they turtled? They are the aggressors, ann certainly were last night. Look what they did to Domi after he hit Barkov.
They've put together a wolf pack mentality that feels pretty similar to the Bolts through their runs.

There was a lot of D to D cross passing in our end, when Berube sees that he knows we aren't playing our game. The D just have to move the puck up.
I think Woll has been fine between the pipes and dueling Bobs, but the difference with Stolarz is you get stronger team defence.

It's striking the impact that Wolls inadequate puck handling has had. The fast paced back and forth tempo of the series starts to stop in our end when we don't have a 6th man back there, and it adds up.

Stolie is also a leader on the ice and very vocal like a soccer goalie.

It's a distinct disadvantage we have now. Team defense isn't as tight.
