Post-Game Talk: Mother's Day No Show: Leafs Lose 2-0

A good opportunity for us to see how this teams copes with adversity. I expect they'll be much better on Wednesday.

Only scary thing is Bob could shut everything down.

We really, really need to sort the PP out. We can't just keep going through with it like Keefe did.
As long as Matthews isn't shooting, he shouldn't be on PP1. Because PP1 is still designed to run through him, and when he doesn't shoot it becomes much easier to shut down. It's the same problem they had with Reilly for the longest time; take away the point shot and prevent Mitch and Willy from getting looks, and it turns into a series of passes between the two of them and Matthews (who again, isn't shooting). They need to get an option between Mitch and Willy that has a point shot. I'm thinking OEL, who ran Florida's PP last year from the point.

I mean he was born outside of LA. LA could really use a replacement for Kopitar

Clark and Byfield would really good on the Leafs.
Keeping a finger on a three way trade with Matty to LA and McD to TOR after Oilers can't get a guarantee.

Not really sure what Matty is worth these days though, which could complicate that.

Auston should be the one going. But Mitch should go too.

I don’t see a lot of his health decisions being made with the Leafs best interest in mind and he doesn’t conduct himself like a captain or play with any urgency.
I think carrying Matthews is weighing Marner down. If he played away from him he would be more productive. It's a risk to let him go without testing that

I think it is for AM to get a good package. An all American kid who can score 50 goals
There are some American teams would love to have him

I see NY Rangers. LA Kings where they love their celebrity players
Vegas loves their name brand players too

If we lose out this round, everything really should be on the table not named Nylander and Knies
I agree. LA got some good pieces.

This is more like what people thought the series would look like.

Maurice's changes have clearly had a huge impact. They're also adjusting to shut down the rush. Berube has to make adjustments for next game. At the same time, it was effectively a 1 goal game on too many penalties early, so it was very winnable up until the last 5min. Woll was good. Most other guys weren't good enough.
Leafs have not played well in Games 3 or 4 and both were winnable.

If they can get back to playing their game I feel it is still there.

But the Panthers have made adjustments like you said, it'll be harder to get to their game... up to the skaters if they want to go there or not. They all know what needs to be done.

Hrudey talking about how Bobrovsky dominating is becoming a turning point in the series as he talks over a "highlight" package of some of the saddest scoring chances you'll ever see. Bobrovsky had an easy night.

The Leafs blew that 3-1 lead in game 3 and let the Panthers right back in.

And I'll confess, I stopped watching when Florida got that first one to get to 3-2 and haven't watched a minute of this series since then. For me, that was it. Faith lost. They were going to blow the game and Florida would carry the momentum into today and take this one too.

Yes, the Leafs can turn it around, win game 5 and go on to take the series but it's going to be exponentially more difficult than it could have been. Too many blown leads these playoffs already and it was eventually going to bite them in the ass. And Game 3 might have been that one.

I don’t love Mitch but I think you can get him going by setting him up with a heads up hard working player who will reward Mitch for making small area play with the puck and doing the heavy lift to score a goal. Nobody can carry the dead weight of Matthews, although Knies tried and almost succeeds.

There's a saying, something like You aren't in trouble until you lose a game on Home ice.

This is the value in winning your division. We have lost momentum and are playing a team that's had way more playoff success than us and are the defending champions.

But we have two of the three potential games in our barn.
Yep. Let's just hope neither of them looks like Game 5 vs. Ottawa.

Gotta give Florida some credit for taking advantage of home ice and the long change. They were calm and poised and kept possession during the second period, tiring out the Buds. It’s a wonderWoll they didn’t score.

When Barkov got that goal off Reilly’s stick and made it 2-1. I thought to myself, Panthers’ luck might change and Leafs might be in trouble.

Yep me too. But they got that 3-1 goal back and it seemed like they had a lot of fight. They had a lot of fight to make it 4-4 too. But they look like a spent force now.

Just the way tonight went, wouldn’t be shocked if this is over in 6 and you can put the over under on goals they have left this season at 3 for the 2 remaining games. Unless they come out like a different team in Game 5, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

It's not a big ask for a superstar to just be good and impactful all by themselves.

The testing phase is so far gone. The decision point now is an eight year NMC protected overpayment.

I'm back to expecting they will lose this series, which is a much happier place to watch games from.

Watching with hope is soul-crushing.

Break does us well. It may not sway the series, but gives us a chance to regroup.

PP needs a rework and really hasn't looked great. The early OTT goals on the PP were mostly from individual chances and not structure.

Funny we come out of another series getting beaten up with pending suspension talk.

Goalie for Toronto was good; skaters were not.

Leafs need to show a little more "Zack Kassian" and a little less "6 million dollar man" (more like 12) to deal with Tkachuk:

The 2-1 goal was the turning point. 3-1 lead was a pp gift but the Leafs got in trouble at 2-0. Credit the Panthers they are good.
