Most valuable player to his team no one is talking about

I know it's required to dump on all things Sabres these days, but that is really obscuring the fantastic season Rasmus Dahlin is having.

Individually, he's 4th in point/game by defencemen, with possession stats in the same ball park as the Norris contenders playing a more physical game than any of them, while remaining a plus player on a bad team.

But these are the numbers that have really blown me away:

Sabres this year with Dahlin in the lineup:

  • GF/GP 3.32 (7th), GA/GP: 3.35 (26), Record 30/28/4 P% .516 (21)

Without Dahlin in the lineup:

  • GF/GP: 2.50 (32) GA/GP: 4.80 (32), Record 0/8/2 P% .100 (32)

It's mindblowing the difference his presence makes on either side of the puck for what is clearly an awful hockey team.

And it's sad how few people realize how good he's been.

ide guess theres lots of fans that dont follow redwings that are unaware of how fantastic an all around game d'cat is playing . great passing / forechecking to pressure puck / driving thru heavy traffic to create offense / super smart heads up plays on both sides of puck / elite level sniping / elite level power play monster . its a blast watching him n kane operate 'the iq line' with kid kasper at center

Matt Duchene for Dallas. He was good last year and he was maybe their best offensive player for the first 25-30% of the season when their biggest offensive players were struggling. Most people prob aren't aware he's gone PPG this season so far and will likely hit 30 goals.

lol no one in sabres is mvp

Yes, he’s good, and it’s not a secret. But people (especially their own fans, I’m assuming) are just sick of BUF’s same old shit, so they get ignored. Nothing ever changes with that team - they’ve been irrelevant forever. This is actually just sad more than anything; as bad as they are, they’d be that much worse if they didn’t have Dahlin.

For the Leafs, I’d say Chris Tanev is a terrific signing and the defensive MVP by far. Probably the over-all MVP along with Stolarz

Tanev is an absolute warrior. I maybe should have known this before.......

But I feel like prior to being on the Leafs, what I heard (and did not witness because Leafs fan, don't watch or pay attention to the Western teams.......sorry) was that he sucks defensively and doesn't score, is constantly on LTIR, basically an anchor to whatever team.

And yet all I see this guy do is block every shot no matter the importance of that given situation, great hair, seems like an amazing team guy, so basically just about as solid a D man as you could ask for minus scoring.

AKA, a very easy D man to love having on your team regardless of his cap hit. (please stay healthy!!!!!!)

Idk man I think it's probably a goalie or defenseman. I think Sorokin is quite literally the only thing keeping that ship afloat, Daccord is a good one, maybe Q Hughes or Lankinen. Probably have to really dig into the numbers, but those are my vibes guesses.
