Forsberg owned the world juniors pretty hard.

Why doesn't the championship recognize Gretzky's 36 points as a 16 year old?

Was that a totally different tournament? I know it was some sort of World Junior Championship though.

I was talking about a one game record. Not a tournament or overall WJC

I don't what are you talkin about. 3 WJC in 1974-1976 were unofficial.
Top point producers in 1974 were : Errikson (SWE) and Khatulev (USSR) with 9 points;
In 1975 : Bredberg (SWE) and Chuchin (USSR) with 8 points
In 1976 : I have no stats only that top goalscorer was Evstifeev(USSR) and Canada scored only 27 goals. Forwards of All-Star Team were : Marsh (CAN) , Kholi (CZE) and Evstifeev(USS)
The first official WJC was held in 1977 but top forward were McKurt with 18 points and forwards of all-star team were : Romashin (USSR), McKurt(CAN) and B.O.Gustaffson (SWE)

Gretky played only at 2nd official WJC in 1977-1978 (yes he was 16 year old) .
He was named the best forward of tournament. The best goalie was Tyzhnyh (USS) and the best D-man was Fetisov(USSR)
All-Star team was :
Tyzhnyh - Fetisov, Siltanen - A. Schastny - Gretzky - M.Naslund
And yes Gretzky led that tournament in scoring but with 17 points (8+9). Second best had 16 points (10+6). It was Shkurdyuk from USSR team.
He didn't play at next WJC.

From where do you get your stats ?
