Most overhyped prospects in recent memory?

Doesn’t matter. Michkov still had a worse rookie season than them. The fact that they were older doesn’t magically make Michkov’s season any better.

Once again, this is just a narrative you made up to argue against instead because you lack the critical thinking skills and honesty to debate anything anyone has actually said.
I’m going to need you to strap your critical thinking cap on real tight and tell us with a straight face that a four year age difference when entering the league doesn’t matter

It doesn’t matter for who wins the Calder. Stop trying to take the statement out of context. If a 24 year old rookie has a better season in the same year as a 20 year old rookie, the Calder is going to the 24 year old - the age difference isn’t going to factor in at all. But tell me more about those critical thinking skills 😂

You don’t need to move the goalposts when you posted the context yourself. This isn’t even the first time I’ve seen you bring up Michael Ryders name when talking about Michkovs rookie season.

People just say this on here for no reason now 😂. It’s lost all meaning.

“You weren’t saying what I wanted you to be saying; therefore, MoViNG tHe GoALpOsTs!!!”

Good call on Soderblom.

I'll say Patrik Laine was quite overhyped and was claimed to be the heir apparent to Ovechkin. They play nothing alike and for some reason Laine has peaked at age 19. I hope he gets back on track when he returns to the NHL.
Laine and his Finnish National junior linemate Jesse Puljujarvi comes to mind.

Such high hopes and looked like the complete package but.....just a complete bust.

I’ll chime in here, Nick Robertson.

At one point in time, it was almost insane how hyped he was by Leaf fans, especially around here. Many Leaf fans were convinced he was better than his brother - Jason Robertson.

Now injury’s haven’t helped but at one point the hype and attention around him was INSANE.
I remember back when Capfriendly was still a thing (f*** you Washington), leafs fans there talked him up like he was the second incarnation of Gordie Howe

Because I’m specifically replying to your troll bait Michael Ryder comparison and your response was to flip the discussion back to Calder voting. Is there another metaphor you’d prefer?

You have yet to provide a valid reason for Michkov being overhyped by the media. According to you, it’s because:

1) Two posters compared him to Gretzky
2) He wasn’t a Calder finalist after 10 members of the media predicted he’d win.

Well, Carey Price was compared to Patrick Roy, was he not? And Carey Price was the top-rated prospect in hockey before his debut, was he not?

The Hockey News (media) polled 21 scouts and scouting directors for their 2008 Future Watch and they ranked Price the No. 1 prospect in the league.

“Price is the first goalie to win a world junior championship and a Calder Cup in the same season. And in doing do, evoking memories of former Canadiens goaltending legend Patrick Roy…”

“It was really difficult not to make those comparisons between the two because they were so similar, said Habs GM Bob Gainey.”

Here we have the media and his own GM comparing Price to Patrick Roy — arguably the greatest goalie of all time — before he established himself.

So again, you must think Carey Price was overhyped as a rookie because a) the media hyped him up before he arrived and b) wasn’t a Calder finalist.

Lol, the original context for that discussion has been deleted, along with a bunch of other posts that were in the last couple pages of this thread. That point was always in the context of Calder voting.

1) You’ve been told repeatedly that it was much more than just two posters. Two of them just happened to unsurprisingly pop up in this thread, like they always do. You continue to ignore that because it’s better for your narrative.

2) You aren’t capable of any honest debate or discussion, and continue to raise strawman arguments and red herrings, despite being called on it multiple times. Again, unsurprising. People who lack critical thinking skills and/or the ability to argue in good faith invariably invoke logical fallacies to support their weak narratives and arguments.

3) You’ve been proven wrong several times over, yet you continue to yammer about irrelevant shit that only you have brought up while repeatedly insisting it’s someone else’s argument. This is all clear as day for everyone to see, and isn’t clever or original at all - more like desperate, tired, and cliched. Have fun with that.

He dug himself his own hole by simply misunderstanding the OPs question by including opinions on this site. He hinges his entire argument on Calder voting when it’s a known fallacy when predicting NHL stardom, then doubles down by using random Dead Puck era Calder Finalists as comparisons to Michkov instead of current post-lockout stars who did not fare well in Calder voting but are destined for the HHOF.

Answer the question. Was Price “overhyped” in 2008 using your Calder voting logic?

And answer this: Is Calder voting an accurate predictor of NHL stardom?

I’ve answered it several times. My answer is that this narrative is one you’ve invented, and is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. This is “logic” you’ve invented to argue against in order to avoid admitting you were proven wrong. I’m not obligated to entertain or support your strawman. Have a great day.

Ok so you’re not going to answer two simple and fair questions and run away instead. Thanks for making it easy for me lol.

For those keeping score at home, here are

First of all, nobody else cares about this back and forth crap between you and I.

Second, strawman arguments and red herrings are logical fallacies, not fair questions. Calling them as such doesn’t change what they are.

Third, nobody is obligated to entertain your dishonest tactics. Keep trying though lol, maybe someone will toss you a bone because they’re bored 😂

And again, I have eyes. I understand the context of the conversation. All I asked was about the age gap. Can you honestly say it’s fair to judge first year players who are four years apart?

How can you understand it when the other posts it is based on have been deleted? Try making sense.
