I was thinking of this the other day, but what do people find as the most recent Isles' memory?

I was between the Bates penalty shot or the Dubie poke-check.

I remember reading Howie saying that series was the loudest he had ever heard at the Coliseum (louder than the Cup years,) but that whole week culminating with the Dubie poke-check was absolutely insane.

Thoughts?

The sad thing is, I wouldnt consider the Penalty Shot recent anymore. If we're truly going recent, I'd say draft day, at the draft party when we drafted john tavares. That place erupted like we just won the cup. Pretty sad to think that one of the best recent isles memories isn't even on the ice

Exactly.. with mgmt this inept, you have to celebrate when they do the right thing, even if it was a no-brainer.

That draft party was the only time I have been to the coliseum since 2007.
As you say nothing on the ice has been memorable recently.

The game we beat up the Penguins. It was nice to see the Islanders administer some payback and not take the abuse.
i would say this if it were a good character win and a real turnaround for the franchise like it seemed at the time, but nothing has changed. it kinda seems like a flukey aberration now, maybe even slightly embarrassing.

i'd say the tavares draft day and that's it. call me a dreamer, but when john finally leads the isles to the promised land, that's going to be on the highlight reel on our arduous journey. not dubie's poke check or trevor gillies' goonery. you know, moments that really matter.

Funny thing is I have only been to Nassau County twice in my life. Living here in New Brunswick Canada.

First time was game 3 vs Buffalo (our last playoff showing) and the second time was the crazy game against Pittsburgh (my son was there with our New Brunswick high school hockey team, he played on the ice surface after the bloodbath vs a local highschool team)

and it was only exciting because of our innate fear that the organization would go off the radar.

I wouldn't really consider Bates penalty shot recent memory, I was at that game, it was the best sporting event I have ever been too, or ever witnessed. I will always remember that moment. In recent memory I would guess Tavares being drafted or moving to the Barcley center?

Bates penalty shot was over a decade ago......

Love that one, its STILL on my DVR, love watching that one. Watched it several times over the summer, and during the lockout. Still have Tavares' first game ever on DVR, I was at the game, but love watching that one as well. Definitely one of my favorite recent memories. JT has 4 career Hat Tricks, and I've been lucky enough the be at 2 of them. Oct 15th 2011 against the Rangers, and this season against the Devils in a 5-1 win. Two great recent memories for me.

And agree with some others here, that Friday night in late June 2009 when the Isle's drafted Tavares, was probably my favorite memorable Islander's happening in many years.

I gotta go with Dubie's poke check. Actually, I'd say that whole last four-game run they had to put together, and all the other stuff that had to happen for them to get into the playoffs. I remember being at a friend's house and using his computer to get the radio feed of the Leafs/Habs game...I forgot who had to win that one though. I think the Leafs had to beat the Habs right after we had beaten the Leafs.

The Dubie poke-check was the best recent memory. I was at that game actually and it was going insane. It's one of the loudest I've ever head the coliseum, that's for sure.

I was at game 3 as well. It was the one where the refs were horrid and all the fans decided throw objects onto the ice if I recall correctly. It was a big game, but not really memorable because of how awful the team did in the series and how terrible the officiating was. That Buffalo team was stacked and I remember their fans being afraid to leave the arena.

The 4 game run was nuts. I was at the Isles Rags game with the poke check, then hopped on a plane late that night to London for a few days, which had no coverage of the Isles at all, came home that Sunday I believe and the first question I asked my dad who was picking me up at the airport was 'Are we still alive and what's the score?'. Got home in time to see that game go into OT on the last second goal by the Devils (which I thought was going to ruin our hopes) and was thrilled when they advanced to the playoffs. It was a crazy couple days for me and I'm sure every Isles fan. It was the last time there was a real energy with the fans.
