How about Brett Hull's 86 goal season? He had 45 assists. Just for comparison, Gretzky had 120 assists when he scored 92 goals. And 118 assists the year he scored 87 goals.

How about the biggest ratio in reverse? I would imagine Gretzky's 52 goals vs his 163 assists ranks up there.

That's right, Gretzky wasn't the he benefited from a great line.

Hull's 86 goal season is absolutely disgusting, in a good way.

Gretzky wasn't "the"??? Not sure what you're trying to say. "The" what exactly? And as far as having a great line, yes he had a good team after the first few years. But do you know who his wingers were during his 212 point season (his first 200 point season)? You might be suprised...

As far as Hull's 86 goals, it's quite an accomplishment to score that many goals. However, when you look at what Lemieux and Gretzky did (by scoring far, far more assists while STILL scoring that many goals), it's far, far more impressive.

I have a Wayne Bianchin hockey card.Had to get the card of a guy who goes 28-6,I have Sedelbaur also. What's amazing is those D who had more goals than assists(Aucoin and Gonchar),I think that it was impossible to score on rebounds during those heavy interference years(also much harder to pass to an open man who was being bearhugged). That's the reason we're seeing more lopsided goal-assist totals from 97 on.

You want an odd stat.

Defenseman Larry Sacharuk
1974-75 St. Louis Blues NHL 76 20 22 42
Career totals 151 29 33 62

What is amazing is
1971-72 Saskatoon Blades WCHL 65 50 36 86
I don't know if he was playing defence at the time or not.

I do not see how a defenseman gets more goals that assists.
The only way I can see it is a guy with a hard, heavy shot that does not create rebounds, and does not have good offensive passing.

Although not the largest ratio, Lanny McDonald does hold the record for most goals in a season w/out reaching 100 points (essentially indicating a low assist total):

66 goals, 32 assists for 98 points.
