Who is the most impactful player if you consider regular season and playoff performance?

Point production in the 2020s:

Pastrnak:
Regular season: 1.21 Playoffs: 0.89

Kaprizov:
Regular season: 1.21 Playoffs: 0.63

Rantanen:
Regular season: 1.24 Playoffs: 1.29

M. Tkachuk
Regular season: 1.15 Playoffs: 1

Marner
Regular season 1.26 Playoffs: 0.91

Some notable achivements/traits for each player:

Pastrnak finished 2024-2025 regular season as the first in points for Boston. He had finished the season with 106 points and 46% more points than the second in points even though Boston was fifth worst team in the league. He has had three 100 point season, most out of anyone in this poll.

Kaprizov has the fifth highest regular season point per game pace (1.21) out of active players. During the regular season 2024-2025 he played in only 41 games but finished the season second in the team in goal scoring. It took the best goal scorer Boldy 78 games to get past him. Kaprizov also finished 3rd in points despite playing only half a season.

Rantanen has the seventh highest point per game pace (1.3) in NHL's playoffs history. He has scored 120 points in 92 playoff games. He has been the highest scoring forward for Avalanche in the playoffs for the past three seasons including their Cup run in 2022. Now with Dallas he leads the league in scoring with 19 points in 11 games and has 47% more points than the second best scorer in Dallas.

Tkachuk has had two 100 point seasons and is a physical presence on the ice for his team. He lead Panthers in assists and was tied for the first place in points on their Cup run in 2024. He has had two 100 point seasons.

Marner has been credited of being a really smart playemaker. This may be evident from the fact that he has the most assists in a season (75) out of any of the players in this poll.

Pastrnak has most 5v5 points in the league by far playing with geekie(57p) and lindholm(47p). If Boston wasn´t bottom feeder and had better PP he would be attacking 150 points and be considered for Art Ross trophy.

Your Kaprizov numbers are wrong. His playoff ppg is 0.84, not 0.63. I only checked because it seemed low - I didn't check all your other data but it looks okay at first glance.

I voted Rantanen. It's hard to deny his impact in the playoffs. Yes - his current run in the past 2 weeks is influencing my vote - but, it should influence me. And even before this year, he's always performed great. The one negative about Rantanen is that he's always been tied to MacKinnon, so hard to evaluate on his own than every other player listed here. And as recently as 2 weeks ago - it didn't look very promising for Rantanen without MacKinnon. So - maybe a bit of uncertainty there.

Still - voted Rantanen. I'd probably say Pastrnak #2,

My stats are from the first five regular seasons and four playoffs in the 2020s. I didn't count current playoffs.

Pastrnak. Rantanen has to do it for a lot longer than 1.5 rounds to prove himself away from MacKinnon.

I feel like if Kaprizov played on another te he’d have a lot more votes. It’s close for me between him and Pasta. I think the recency bias is hitting a bit with Rantanen. He’s a good player but he’s certainly not as good as Kaprizov or Pasta. I’ll listen to an argument that Matthew Tkachuk is the best player, but it’s the “you’ll win with him the most” arguement, and I’m not sure I believe it either.

It’s between the first 3 and you can argue a case for all 3 of Pastrnak, Kaprizov, and Rantanen. I personally pick Pasta
Yeah it really could be any of the three.

I would have kept Rantanen out of that because he didn’t look the same outside of Colorado but he’s come back as a playoff beast.

I’d pick Pasta just because he has a rocket and a 60G season

Marner is easily the best two way player out of the 4 while being on a similar level offensively to kap, pasta and Rantanen.

Despite current struggles, he shouldn't be last place.

Anyone of the first three is the correct answer.
I went with Kaprizov because of the difference he makes whether he’s playing or not.

Maybe but point is he doesn’t and Tkachuk to this point in his career is more of a winner.
Ranatanen has a cup with better play for the Avs then either Tkachuks final runs

He's also been absurdly good so far for Dallas

Pasta is unlucky the Bruins have sucked offensively for 3-4 years now. He was pretty good in the 2019 final run, not much worse than Tkachuk in 2024 cup win

Which ones were key in their club winning the Cup? Imo, because these are all great players in their own rights, those are the two most impactful.

Marner is the worst one in the playoffs.. I'd take Patarnak for the regular season he has been extremly consistent these past 3 years

Kaprizov and Pastrnak are the only two guys on this list that have never played with anyone better than themselves. When you look at the production through that lens, it's hard to take the other three.

I'll go with Kaprizov because I'm a homer and whenever he's played with Rossi or Boldy he looks like a Hart/Art Ross contender.

Great poll OP. Went with Matty TK because the value he brings isn't really about points, yet he puts up points anyway.

I really think you could make a case for any of these guys. Marner's not getting much love (probably because playoffs) but he's arguably the most complete player of the five depending how you value his defense

Kaprizov and Tkachuk are probably ultimately the two biggest difference-makers. I like both Pastrnak and Rantanen too.

Kaprizov, though, has the most outstanding offensive talent.
