Crosby does have a chance to become #2 all time in adjusted assists, and that is immensely impressive - especially for a player with 662 adjusted goals.

If Crosby becomes the all time assist leader, that's quite easily the more impressive achievement. It means he'll put up some 900 assists after the age of 37. Even Gretzky had slowed down significantly at that age!

I don't think so. Gretzky has nearly 2000 assists. That is much harder to get to than 894.

Crosby getting 1964 assists would be more impressive than Ovi getting 895 goals. But the assist record is unreachable.

I read the title of this thread and thought maybe I had lost my mind or maybe fell asleep for a decade+ only to wake and find Crosby at age 53 was still playing for the Pens. But still getting those last 120 assists was not a guarantee.

The assist record would be more impressive, but mainly because Sid would have to have been a much better player in order to reach it. Even 20 years of healthy McDavid wouldn’t come that close.

Crosby could record 100 assists per season for 9 straight seasons and would still fall short of Gretzky's total by 46 assists.

That would obviously be the most impressive record, as it's completely out of reach at this point.
