The way this game was refereed was very strange. Both of the challenged calls could have gone the other way. Certainly “Carter’s” goal was kicked in by the other guy. 15 penalties, 9 against the Devils??? Sheez.

Big big win. Gut check really. Special teams won the game for us. Good thing Letang was out but then our injury situation is abysmal at the moment.

Ruff shortened the bench and all the power plays disrupted line deployment anyway too. Holtz and Z got only about 5 minutes and Bahl and Ohk hardly more.

Fine game by Mercer. He and Hughes played 20 minutes and Haula just about that too.

It’s big that Hamilton broke out. About time.
Hamilton has had a few really good games lately IMO. His entire season so far has been pretty damn good.

Probably the most bonkers reffed game youll see in awhile... Not a joke!

All that is true. All the big guns showed up. Jack PPG, Nico (SHG), Dougie with some daggers.

Sevs played half the game and vitek was streak vitek.

Bratt still looks like something happened. He is playing very oddly.

Yes but in our goal drought (if it's truly over), we weren't getting much contribution from the Defense or Hamilton in particular, where earlier in the season the 4th player was generally quite involved. And as Hamilton is the featured guy and our highest paid player, I figure more is expected from him.

When the power play struggles it's also his name that gets singled out as well, given that he's the quarterback out there at the top of the diamond; and really that's not a role that completely suits him. He's not the most fluidly mobile guy, has sort of an upright style of skating, and when things stagnate it's often him who's in the middle of the stagnation. He doesn't get his shot through consistently when the power play unit isn't clicking and the goalie's seem to be able to read it well. I'd say in general, "as Hamilton goes so goes the Devil's offense; (and as Hamilton goes so goes the power play too," except Hughes is now driving that unit somewhat sufficiently).

I was actually thinking at the end of the two Boston games, when trying to figure out what could be changed to get us back on track, that getting Hamilton scoring and assisting again would go a long way to getting us off the schneid. That's why I said, "about time." I was happy to see him more involved tonight.

Dougies got 30 points in 36 games, is on pace for the most goals he’s ever scored, and has actually scored above his season average since the rough streak started.

Not really sure what else anybody could want from him. Getting the real Dougie has been the second most important thing in our transformation, barely behind getting tolerable goaltending.

It looks like there’s 1 team in the NHL with more. Pretty damn impressive considering how cold we’ve been.

Hell, it’s looking like the tiebreaker could even come into play if we can just hang within 5-6 points of Carolina. The Canes aren’t immune to a cold spell, either.

Also, Jesus Christ severson spent 12 minutes on the ice SH

What a moronic f***ing game

Least moronic part of the whole thing was how the Devils handled it.

ok so he said "if he's playing that amount of minutes, we didn't execute well enough."

not exactly a ringing endorsement for your own player haha

That was hilarious...and people think we're hard on Severson lol

I do think to a degree Lindy realizes Severson's one of those guys you constantly have to put the spurs to. I also think he kinda thrives on extra icetime, usually those are when his best games come.
