Most expensive healthy scratches in playoff history

Laine is the spiritual leader of the Habs, even though he's getting scratched, that's just for the integrity of the game so he doesn't get 8+ clap bombs per period making a mockery of the NHL.

The jury is still out if "Laine's better," but if he gets a cup through his leadership before fraudston, he may indeed have proved that.

To be honest, I’d rather have Laine as a PP specialist on the 2nd PP unit which has sucked, rather than dressing some of the 5-10minute men they’ve been dressing this playoff. Does Veleno really provide more in his minutes, rather than actually having a dangerous 2nd PP unit?

Either by AAV or % of cap. Patrik Laine has to be up there I would think. Who else?
McTavish got scratched multiple times. Makes $7m and is only 23.

I don't think folks realize how rare that is......Ducks fans certainly don't anyway. Since they keep telling me he has elite value anyway or they will "just keep him" and everything will be just dandy.

Out of shape or just slowing down due to age and injuries?

Hes simply slowed down and it actually started around down 2021, I would say.

Gallagher is a gym rat and his dad was a trainer for the vancouver giants, so I doubt its a conditioning problem. I think the real problem is that he exerted himself on every shift of his career like it was his last and that eventually catches up.... not to mention the multiple gruesome injuries he suffered in his career.

Montembeault doesn't play he sucks
Veleno doesn't play he sucks
Laine doesn't play because he hasn't played since like September
Gallagher doesn't play because he's washed.

Veleno/Gallagher replacement is Texier
Monty got kicked out due ro sucking so we play two rookies
Laine is being scratched because of Kapanen and Bolduc two rookies.

The second unit of PP isn't playing much anyway
+Dobson got a surgery for his thumb not long ago so bringing Laine wouldn't make it much better

Patrik Laine, former 2nd overall and Stanley cup champion, right on time for his UFA season!

Laine is using 9.11% of Montreal's cap space. The only player I'm aware of who was a bigger postseason scratch, in terms of cap percentage, is Dany Heatley (11.6%) for the Wild in 2014.

People talk about Raddysh and Tuch getting paid, Laine is going to make Ohtani look like he is on an ELC

I think at some point it becomes a question of a standard being put in place. And players who deviate from that standard not expecting to play above players who don't. It keeps everyone honest. Laine would need to be massively impacting the game above and beyond his faults and flaws and at some point it just wasn't the case anymore. His flaws could not be overlooked.

Does Laine count? Isn't he on IR? I didn't think players put on IR went against cap?

AFAIK he's on IR, but the whole situation is a bit weird and no one seems to really know what's going on. Already months ago there was some murmurs he was healed from the injury, and he has been practicing and travelling with the team to away games. In any case including him wouldn't seem right for the spirit of the thread (at least the way I think of it), since we don't really know, technically he's not healthy scratched and it's a case of missing months because of surgery and then just never coming back.
