Most Disappointing Team in Recent Times

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I am not actually disappointed this year. I knew going in this team was flawed and have wantsd to move on from Kreider, trouba and lindgren for years. Miller is another one i wanted to be traded in offseason.

If kreider is finally gone after this year i consider it a win.

The biggest disappointment of this year is the shesterkin contract.
Yeah I think most of us felt last year was an abberation. We already knew about the core quitting on coaches in Year 2 and the inevitable roster movement to make cap space. That being said, I didn't think we'd get to these lows. But at this point, the house cleaning needs to start with a new GM and then a coach who will play our prospects with regular ice time.

Last year wasn’t so much an aberration, they were pretty much in line with the previous 2 years, they just won more OT games to win the Presidents. It’s not like they came out of nowhere .

But that was the ceiling and they’re falling off hard

I'm too young to really remember the first four years listed, so I never voted.

That said, I think I would likely not vote for this season, if I was more informed. It's been miserable, and terrible to watch, but because we've bottomed out so hard, I have found some (probably laughably unwarranted) optimism that eyes have been opened to the glaring flaws in how we've structured this core.

The flaws were there last season. Our powerplay and come back victories pushed up to a 1st place finish. We didn't look like a first place team through-out the season. Playoffs came and because of how many games it took fan bragged that we crushed Washington. We looked pretty awful against Washington. A loss right there would have brought all expectations back down for this season. In 1992-1993, we came off a president trophy winning season and fell hard.

I don't think I view this season as disappointment. I view this team and the surrounding players highly unlikeable.

EDIT: The season after our cup win would be viewed much worse had we not made playoffs by 1 point.

I wasn't old enough to remember the 1992-93 season, so I get it if you voted for that.

2015-16 not being an option is insane. Cup Final in 13-14 with great underlying numbers. President's Trophy in 14-15 with still decent underlying numbers. 2015-16, they were suddenly one of the most ineffective teams in the league. Extremely similar to this team.

By the definition of disappointed I don't think you've been paying close enough attention if you chose this team.

I think the signs have been there for awhile whereas 15-16 is closer to actually being that.

God that was so awesome. I remember when they made it to thanksgiving with like a 16-3-2 record and Lundqvist had .999 save percentage.

There was a lot of good feelings until @Inferno made what I think of as a legendary HFNYR thread basically saying “don’t care about the record. This team is playing like shit” and it started a massive audit debate about our performance. It was like the first step towards the war this place had over the course of the season. He shot the Archduke.

I voted current season for obvious reasons, every player except Cuylle has literally gotten worse this year vs last, no one cares, most games have been unwatchable, suddenly we are fighting for a wildcard spot at the end somehow the team goes 3-6-1 in their last 10

The Eric Staal season :shudders:

They probably were. We traded half the team at the '94 deadline to get less talented.

Good thing Leetch had the best Conn Smythe run ever with one shoulder.
Mike Richter's Game 6 performance vs the Devils in Period 1 and 2 is the difference between winning a Stanley Cup and yet another disappointing conference finals loss. Neil Smith probably loses his job after 94 if they didn't win it all. Which also might have resulted in Keenan staying. But that is all hindsight.

That's true, we really kind of hit the wall against the Devils and Mike kept us in it.

I feel like recency bias is going to sway the votes pretty heavy on this one, so I refused to vote for this year's team right away. Not to say they aren't a disappointment considering the run the last couple years.

The first time I ever got disappointed by this team was the 98 season and at that point, none of us had any way of knowing the Dark Ages had just begun.

When was the shitty Olli Jokinen shootout attempt against the Flyers that kept us out of the playoffs? Was that 09-10? Because if not, THAT sure deserves to be there.

Wasn't that the original "This is a bad hockey team"?
