HF Habs: Most disappointing Hughes Acquisition (All Michkov draft talk here)

not picking Leonard/michkov and getting Dach are looking like the 3 worst moves so far. I mean, besides hanging on to dead assets for way too long

Reinbacher is all hype still, I fell Leonard/Michkov could have been amazing for this team. Michkov/Demidov/Laine, Cole, Nick.. Laine.. on the PP... wow

But I'll hang tight for the 'you can't get RD's unless you draft them' guys to chime in, they read it somewhere so it must be true. They NEVER come up in FA or for trade, like 35 goals scorers apparently do lol

I find you can't even bring up Barron anymore because they FIXED that by turning him into a much better player and fit in Carrier
Dach at least showed *flashes* of stuff outside the major injuries, he's got 1 year left anyway to show us something more

For me unfortunately it's clearly Mesar, and it's not fair to him or wtv I get all that
Just wish they went somewhere else there, maybe a D
Just HATE that we continuously flop our 1st round picks in the mid 20's lol whether it's McCarron, poehling, scherbak, juulsen, now mesar like ,
God we never seem to hit it lol

I think Hughes knew that too and traded 26+ for 21 lol, already a better pick cuz the 17th ranked talent dropped to us at 21 lol
I disagree, the promises on Barron were far higher than Carrier.

Considering each move in isolation from that list: History of hockey trades by general manager Kent Hughes - NHL Trade Tracker

1/2 Dach/Barron
3 Kovacevic

The best move is still Monahan, then maybe Laine, then maybe Carrier.

Was my Colin White post deleted im serious

I can't believe some of y'all still can't let Michkov go. There's no way Hughes could've predicted the injuries, and when he's healthy, Reinbacher looks like a future top pairing minute munching 2-way mobile RD. I'd take that over an undersized scoring winger EVERYDAY of the week.

Yeah, the injury concerns do suck, but drafting Reinbacher over Michkov WAS the right pick and getting Demidov the following year makes Michkov completely irrelevant. Let it go!

Michkov is gonna be a star. Call it what it is, massive blunder, injuries or not.

Demidov is going to be a superstar.

Reinbacher still has the potential to be more valuable to a team than Michkov.
Michkov and Demidov were drafted in two different drafts, and if Caufield and Demidov can coexist, so can Michkov and Demidov. Stop with that.

Reinbacher is amazing and I was the only person hyping him up pre-draft. Hes never going to be more valuable.

No, no, we know. Weve known since draft day.

Accept it, live with it, stop lying to yourself.

The Michkov shit is still alive today because people keep the copium alive.
Yeah but you know folks are always gonna have this excuse, until he settles and we know because the events are all in the past, not in part in the present/future.

Edit: That said it looks like Reinbacher is starting with a 60+ pts gap to catch up eh.

I'm kind of confused why people are still hung up on Michkov after Montreal took Demidov given who Montreal has on the roster and the fanbases' desire to get bigger. I figured Leonard would by the guy fans would pine over.

Well personally, I'm very happy with Caufield and Demidov coexisting, I could care less about Michkov, but that's just me.

Let's say they draft Michkov and already have Caufield, do they also add Demidov with not blue chip defense prospect (no one could know Hutson was going to do what he's doing) in the pipeline? Or do they make a trade like it was rumored?

Imo, Caufield + Demidov + Reinbacher > Caufield + Michkov + drafted D of trade D

I think some people just like to be mad and complain. They can't just be happy with what they have and are always looking over the other side of the fence.

Because both Michkov and Demidov can coexist in Montréal if Caufield, a worse player than Michkov (in the future), can coexist with Demidov.

Pick BPA and trade assets after.

Picks in the 20s have done better than I would have expected, but they depend a lot on the draft. Some of those picks looked like “take the best center available even if he’s projected a round or two away” but for some of those there weren’t really good options. You need to hit some in 30 years, though. So far Hughes has Mesar and Hage, we’ll see how that goes. With luck the habs will be picking late for a while.

If youre happy with Caufield and Demidov, imagine how happy you would be with Michkov and Demidov for 15 years, and Caufield or assets Caufield would yield.

Michkov + Demidov + Caufield > Reinbacher-verse.

Its very simple, just accept it. Theres no need to keep lying to yourself. You were wrong, most of this board was wrong.

Its so easy to just go "Oh, well". We have a good team anyway, but its the reality of life.

Lol get off your high horse man

Caufield is still improving his game, rounding it off while still possibly hitting 40 goals this year, is a core guy for the culture of this team we love so much, and you're talking about trading him

It's like some of y'all want this team to turn into a high octane offense playoff choking team like the Leafs

Leonard is no bigger than Demidov. Just play a more physical kind of game.

And yet, Michkov is 20 years old phenom that is producing as much as Cole.

Caufield and Michkov fill the same archetype, stop this bs right now.

no no, apparently they knew they would draft Demidov and Hutson, making the Michkov pick pointless. Apparently undersized forwards suck (Michkov, Caufield, Debrincat, Kane, Jesper Bratt etc) you rebuild through D, just look at Buffalo and Detroit ?

You can only build a winner if you draft players like Seiter, Dahlin, Power

Producing just as much as 24 y.o. Cole? The same Cole that has 12 more goals? That Cole that probably could have more if Laine didn't take most of his PP opportunities? That same Cole that is a culture driver if this team?

Yes, Caufield and Michkov do fill the same archetype which is exactly why they didn't need to draft him. They were happy with the "Michkov" they have at home and decided to draft the best RD of the that draft instead.

And possibly, its impossible to trade players? We can't trade Caufield? We can't trade Demidov? We can't trade Michkov?

This board has absolutely dug their heels down collectively against Michkov and its going to look incredibly foolish, the kid is a top 5 phenom of the 20's draft.

A lot of assumptions, very little reality.
