And Cooley has looked fantastic so far this season. It's like everything we do we f*** up! Hopefully Demidov is the real deal and we could add a guy like Misa at the draft

If every instinct we have is wrong, then the exact opposite would have to be right!

I call BS on the notion that CM has the authority to nix a trade for the Canadiens. I didn’t hear the interview but there’s no possible way that she has that kind of power.

Bruh,

Bold of you to have an opinion while ignoring the information out there and information coming directly from Chantal herself.

You can choose to close your eyes if you want to though, I guess.

Thanks for your permission. Anyway, she can say whatever she wants to, but I don’t know exactly what she said, but if you actually think she possesses that type of authority over someone who likely earns about 5-8 times what she does, then I’d like to offer you a bridge in Brooklyn.

You're welcome!

You admittedly won't even read/listen to the data available yet you choose to have an opinion and you're smug about it too.

May god bless you dude.

I explained to you why I think it’s BS or at least self-aggrandizement by her. I don’t care in the least if you don’t agree. You’re not required to.

French interview is here

English summary here

"On the air of 98,5 Radio, she revealed how GM Kent Hughes approached her with the idea of acquiring a Francophone player in a trade, but a transaction that would see that player move elsewhere. Machabée expressed her concern and convinced the general manager to abort the trade in order to keep the respect of the fanbase and not anger them with how they could have treated the player in a quick three-team move."

Most likely we would have retained on Huberdeau as a 3rd party for one season.
Holy hell is this team ever soft. Kent are you the GM or is Chantal? Not making a hockey trade because Chantal said it would offend the fans??

Jeez louise. I'm giving this team benefit of the doubt for now but they are giving me dubas leafs vibes lately with how soft they seem to be. Hugo going after soft players in newhook, Barron and Dach. Being scared of Michkov. Chantal telling them what to do. MSL not being the hard ass he needs to be....

The three headed monster needs to grow some serious balls. And then maybe we will see our team grow some too. This is definitely not all on the players I don't care how crap they are. Culture stems from the top

Molson is the soft one and yeah... this makes a lot of sense, sadly.

Kent is looking like a bust until proven otherwise.
No michkov , Slaf sucks , dach sucks , Newhook sucks , Barron sucks , Reinbacher is broken.

But we beat the Ducks so yeah.

Barron was the realy one great add in that list, but didnt turned well. It just to tough to accept a rebuild concept when out management dont look to get fair knowledge about youth. We can argue about prospects but Dach and Newhook file is looking now exactly how Avs and Hawk FANS sold us them on this board when traded.

It's brutal. Buttercup teams will always be a joke. Leafs with all talent they had could barely escape 1st round with Keefe and Dubas.

If we could somehow combine MSL with Therrien, and Hughes with Bergevin I think we'd have a winning recipe. There are parts of Hughes I really appreciate like his creativity and cap management. I actually think he is a good GM but the overall softness is what bothers me the most. He needs some grit - both with how this organization is run and also the types of players he should be trying to acquire.

This instills a lot of confidence in KH.

What the heck is he doing running a trade by Chantal? You’re the GM, if you like the trade do it, if you want to talk it out, speak with head scout, assistant GM.

There are some people who wear those beautiful rose colored glasses and do not take them off, no matter what.

Some of us, used to wear them but we took them off long ago.
I took mine off as soon as Hugo came on board. Imagine wearing those during the Berge era LOL. I remember defending him so hard for standing pat on 10M because we had to resign the "MINT" bois in KK, Mete & Domi

Cooley looked fantastic in his last 9 games. 13pts in his first 20gp isnt so fantastic. 1 less than Slafbusky. The guy is hot right now and can get cold at any moment like Slaf.

I didn't listen to the whole French interview so maybe the English translation is a bit sensationalist, but Chantal did say so herself.

I found it to be wholly unprofessional, bragging to some rando radio personality about her influence with the team, regardless of how much impact she actually had.

Well it was during the summer of 2022 so we know the timeframe.

Thinking logically, Huberdeau makes the most sense. Calgary needed cap relief to sign Kadri so maybe we would've retained 50% on Huberdeau's expiring deal in the Tkachuk trade.

Maybe if we made that deal it leads to no Monahan - still, I don't like our PR person bragging about influencing trades.
The more I hear the more it sounds like click-bait trash where there's a kernel of something true that is intentionally misreported. Hubredeau might be a possibility, but his cap hit was <6m so even at 50% retention that wouldn't have been enough for Calgary. You also have to keep in mind it could have been a guy on the block who wasn't traded because nobody stepped in when we said no.

Also if we are believing conspiracy theories, we should remember the conspiracy theory at the time was that it was actually Gorton who was GM and Hughes was just a front man to speak French to the fans/media. So it really must have been Gorton who worked on that trade only to be have Chantal veto it.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
The cope of some posters trying to think we didn't miss much on Michkov is crazy.

We passed on a guy that should have been #1 if it was not for Bedard. Then we selected a guy who had injuries issues who also got injured twice in 2 years missing his complete full year this season.

Wait 5years or 10 years . We will have missed on a ppg winger while we end up with an European Josh Georges

Team desperate for scores passing on a guy of his caliber is nuts. Imagine Demidov and Michkov. If they found a 2c they would have a serious top 6.

Not giving up on DR but it was a mistake.

This part is fine. And honestly, I think he'll be more than a PPG winger. Michkov is a legit star in the making.
while we end up with an European Josh Georges
This part's dumb. Whatever Michkov is - that doesn't lessen what RB will be.

Assuming the Habs made a mistake here - and they probably did - that doesn't mean that RB is shit or should be shat on. He'll be what he's going to be - hopefully a reliable RD. The kind we desperately need.

Absolutely possible to make a mistake and still wind up with a good player. Hopefully RB actually becomes something, because if he doesn't...
