The Uncanny Valley
When the league changed from metal pegs to magnets on the nets after Mark Howe got his ultimately career ending back injury in the 80's, Oilers players like Glenn Anderson started getting into the habit of going for breakaways then dropping on their rears when the inevitable hook happened then guided the puck in front of them with their skates in the air. The opposing goalies would then have to jump to take the skates in their pads and the puck would slide underneath them during the crash. There was no fear of getting hurt from crashing the net anymore. The league would later switch to pegs then bending pegs and much later start enforcing hooking.

When Stan Mikita discovered that hooked sticks give a shooter more leverage and make pucks easier to lift, Bobby Hull broke the scoring record by firing shots at goalies heads breaking one of the unwritten rules in hockey. Jaques Plante started wearing a mask after that against management's orders and breaking another unwritten rule.

Are we watching the same video? He clearly loses an edge. How can you think this is intentional? I'm not a fan of either team but come on.

I mean, it's not like Kreider hadn't an extensive track record of running goalies before this one happened

And he "lost an edge" just to fell on his back skates first? GTFO of here with that shit lol
